Cold Wave: Temperature Likely To Increase By 3-5 Degrees After Jan 3 In North India , Isolated Thundershowers Expected In Some Parts

Relief from the biting cold in North India is likely as there may be a rise in the minimum temperature by three to five degrees Celsius.

New Delhi: The biting cold prevailing in North India continues and according to the India Meteorological Department(IMD) cold wave to severe cold wave is likely in some parts. Dense to very dense fog was observed over Punjab, Haryana, and West Uttar Pradesh and dense fog in isolated pockets over North West Rajasthan, north West Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar. The IMD has said cold wave to severe cold wave is likely to continue in Uttar Pradesh for the next two days

Due to the influence of the interaction between Western Disturbance and lower-level easterlies from the Bay of Bengal, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall has been predicted for over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, north Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh, and northwest Madhya Pradesh. Although there will no significant change in the maximum temperature, there may be a rise in the minimum temperature by three to five degrees Celsius.




The IMD has said that the peak intensity of rain will be on January 4 and 5, there is a possibility of heavy rain/snow over Jammu and Kashmir. Hailstorm at isolated places is also likely over western Himalayan Region during this time. Isolated heavy rainfall also likely over Punjab on 4 January 2021.

On New Year Day, severe cold wave conditions continued in Kashmir and the valley recorded sub-zero temperature.
