On a budget but not willing to compromise on safety? We’ve got you covered. Here are the cars that overdeliver on the bare minimum of dual airbags without breaking the bank in the process
With the implementation of BNVSAP (Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program) regulations, safety features like airbags, ABS and seatbelt reminders will become mandatory for new cars manufactured after April 2019. While dual airbags are slowly becoming the standard, if you needed a wider safety net, you would usually need to chart into a more premium category which starts way past the Rs 10 lakh mark. However, there are quite a few vehicles that offer more than the bare minimum, that too within the million rupees mark. Let’s take a look at some of them.
Ford - Figo, Aspire and Freestyle
Ford has not one but three cars in this list. This includes its Figo twins: the hatchback and the compact sedan along with the recently launched Freestyle are all available with a total of six (front, side and curtain) airbags in their top Titanium+ variant. Their ex-showroom Delhi prices are mentioned below. Ford’s EcoSport and the Endeavour also feature six and seven airbags respectively but those cost over Rs 10 lakh.

However, only the petrol MT of the Rapid lies within the Rs 10 lakh threshold as the Czech carmaker is offering this variant at a price of Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for a limited period.
Toyota Yaris
We saved the top dog for the end. The Yaris packs a whopping seven airbags right from its base J variant, which can also be had with a CVT gearbox. Other variants of the petrol-only Yaris are priced over Rs 10 lakh, so they don’t really qualify. Its seven airbags are spread as two up front, two curtain, two front side airbags and a driver knee airbag.
