One person died and five were injured after a three-storey building collapsed in a market area in Madhya Pradesh's Satna on Tuesday midnight. Five people were rescued successfully and were rushed to hospital for treatment, Superintendent of Police Mahendra Singh Chouhan said. The deceased was identified as Chhotelal Kushwaha, a labourer. He was a resident of Singhpur village in Satna district. 


Satna MLA Siddharth Kushwaha arrived at the spot following the collapse and said, “As per the information we have received, some renovation work was going on, and amid that, this building collapsed. It's not clear how many are trapped inside; rescue operations are underway,” the Hindustan Times reported.


Abhishek Gehlot, Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation, Satna, while talking to ANI earlier this morning said, "We received information that two labourers were trapped under the debris. Rescue operations were conducted and we have successfully rescued both of them."






According to a report in the Hindustan Times, renovation work was going on at the site when the building collapsed. 


Earlier on September 28, a man and a two-month-old girl died when the floor of the basement of an under-construction building collapsed on them in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The deceased were identified as Mukadam, 30, who was a labourer and a girl named Aishya. 


Police officials while talking to the news agency PTI said that 14 labourers got injured in the unfortunate incident. All injured were taken to a nearby hospital where they were undergoing treatment. 


Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Sayed Ali Abbas told PTI, "Some labourers who worked at the site used to live in shanties in the basement. As the floor collapsed, the labourers were buried under the rubble in their sleep."
