West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will visit New Delhi on Friday to participate in a national conclave where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also an invitee, a senior state secretariat official said on Monday.
Asked whether the Trinamool Congress supremo would be meeting Modi in the national capital, the official said an appointment has been sought with the prime minister, but the "response is still awaited". (PTI)

Five labourers are feared trapped under the rubble of a house that collapsed in Delhi's Satya Niketan area on Monday, fire officials said to PTI.
The house was undergoing repairs when it collapsed, they said.
Atul Garg, Director of Delhi Fire Services said, "We received a call around 1:24 pm about a house collapse in Satya Niketan building number 173 here. Six fire tenders have been rushed to the spot."
Five labourers are trapped under the debris and efforts are being made to rescue them, he said.
Police said their team is also at the spot and helping with the rescue operation.

In view of the rising COVID-19 cases in some states of the country, the Jharkhand School Education and Literacy Department has asked schools to suspend morning assembly, cultural programmes and sports activities, officials said on Monday.
The School Education and Literacy department has issued a fresh COVID-19 guideline for schools in Jharkhand in the light of rising COVID-19 cases in some states.
As per the new guideline, the schools have been asked to conduct health checkups on a regular basis in coordination with nearest health centres and district administrations have been directed to ensure random COVID-19 test of students and teachers. Morning assembly, cultural programmes and sports activity will remain suspended in schools, an official release said.
The School Education and Literacy Department secretary Rajesh Kumar Sharma in a letter to all deputy commissioners, district education officers and district superintendents of education, has asked them to follow COVID-19 guidelines in a bid to restrict the spread of the disease.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Monday inaugurate the seventh edition of India's flagship conference on geopolitics and geoeconomics -- Raisina Dialogue -- in which over 210 speakers from 90 countries are set to participate, news agency PTI reported.
"I am happy to announce that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the dialogue. The inaugural session will have European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen as the chief guest," MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said.

Assam Court To Hear Jignesh Mevani Bail Plea
A local court sent independent legislator Jignesh Mevani to one-day judicial custody on Sunday after he was arrested by Assam police for allegedly posting a tweet against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The court will hear his bail plea on Monday, a police official told news agency PTI. Mevani’s three-day police custody had ended on Sunday, after which he was produced before the court late in the evening.
Mevani, an Independent MLA supported by the Congress, was apprehended from Palanpur town in Gujarat on Wednesday night after a First Information Report (FIR) under various sections of the IPC and the IT Act was filed in Kokrajhar Police Station over his purported tweet against the prime minister.
