Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu on Friday began a fast in UP's Lakhimpur Kheri, declaring that he will continue it till Union minister Ajay Mishra's son is not arrested.


Sidhu proceeded on a fast and could be seen lying on a cot at the scribe's house in Lakhimpur Kheri. He is also observing a "maun vrat" (silent fast).

Breaking News LIVE: Ashish Mishra Yet To Appear Before Police In Lakhimpur Violence Case

Union Minister of State for Home Kumar Ajay Mishra's son Ashish Mishra, who was asked to appear before the police at 10 am on Friday in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, did not reach the police lines till 11.30 am, sources said.

Deputy Inspector General (Headquarters) Upendra Agarwal who is heading the probe team is present in the police lines for questioning him, they said.

"Ashish Mishra has not turned up till now," an official source said around 11.30 am.

In a statement issued here, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha said, "...there is no trace of him (Ashish Mishra). News reports indicate that he is changing locations and is absconding, with several UP Police teams searching for him."

The morcha expressed its "serious concern and shock" as Mishra was not arrested.

As investigators waited for Mishra, reports emerged that he might have fled to Nepal.

Breaking News LIVE: Fire At A Godown In Delhi, No Casualties Reported

A fire broke out at a godown in southeast Delhi on early Friday, officials said.

No casualty has been reported so far, they said.




A call about the fire in Sanjay Colony in Okhla Phase 2 was received at 3.51 am following which 18 fire tenders were rushed to the spot, said Atul Garg, Director, Delhi Fire Service.

Cotton, thread and clothing waste were stored inside the basement, ground and first floors of the godown, he said.

Breaking News LIVE:Civilian shot dead by CRPF personnel in J&K's Anantnag

 A civilian was shot dead by CRPF personnel in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district on Thursday after the driver of his car did not stop the vehicle at a checkpoint when signalled to do so, officials said.

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel signalled the driver of the sports utility vehicle to stop at Monghal in Anantnag district at around 9.35 pm but he failed to respond, the officials said.

"A Naka was established by 40Bn CRPF at Monghal Bridge. A suspected vehicle without number was signalled to stop by the Naka party, however, it rushed towards the Naka party. It was then challenged by the on duty troops," the Kashmir zone police said on Twitter.

"Troops fired upon in self defence in which one person died. But the driver of the vehicle managed to escape from the spot. Identification & credentials of the deceased person is being verified. Investigation is going on," it added.

Breaking News LIVE, October 8, 2021: Hello and welcome to ABP News LIVE Breaking News Blog!  The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Thursday said that it will hold a meeting on October 8 to discuss the next course of action on the Lakhimpur Kheri violence that left four farmers dead.

The SKM, which is spearheading the farmers' agitation against the Centre's farm laws, also said that it is waiting for the arrest of Ashish Mehra, the son of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra.

The Uttar Pradesh Police on Thursday arrested two men in connection with the October 3 violence in Lakhimpur Kheri district. According to a notice, Ashish Mehra has been asked to come to the police lines at 10 am Friday.

The SKM had on Wednesday warned the Centre and the UP government that it would launch a "big programme" if its demands for the removal of MoS Ajay Mishra and the arrest of his son were not fulfilled till the 'antim ardas' of the farmers killed in the incident.

In its statement on Thursday, the SKM said that the 'antim-ardas' of the deceased farmers will be held on October 12.

It said that it is still waiting for the arrest of Ashish Mishra and his accomplices.


The farmers' group also condemned the statement of Uttar Pradesh minister Baldev Singh Aulakh that the Lakhimpur Kheri incident was an "accident" and demanded that he withdraw it.


Vowing to punish the perpetrators of recent terror attacks in Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday night warned those aiding and abetting terrorists that every drop of innocent civilians' blood will be avenged.

The LG assured the people that they will "completely demolish" the terror ecosystem.

"I am deeply pained and anguished and I promise the family members of the innocent victims that perpetrators of the barbaric acts will be punished soon", Sinha said in a statement on Thursday night.

"My tributes to the civilians martyred in the terrorist attacks. My heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones. The UT administration and the whole country stand in solidarity with the families of the victims in this hour of grief," he added.
