Verdict on Manish Sisodia's Bail Pleas in Delhi Excise Policy 'Scam' Today
The Supreme Court is scheduled to announce its verdict on Monday regarding two separate regular bail pleas filed by former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, news agency PTI reported. These cases pertain to allegations of corruption and money laundering connected to the now-voided excise policy for the national capital.
A bench comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and S V N Bhatti, which had reserved its verdict on October 17, will deliver its decision on both the pleas. In a previous hearing, the Supreme Court expressed concerns regarding the proof of the money-laundering case against Sisodia and the necessity to prove that a bribe was part of the predicate offense.
Sisodia was arrested on February 26 by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in relation to his alleged involvement in the excise policy scandal. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader has remained in custody since his arrest.
Supreme Court to Hear Pleas on Disqualification Proceedings of Maharashtra MLAs
On Monday, the Supreme Court will hear pleas requesting an expeditious decision by the Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly regarding disqualification proceedings against Shiv Sena MLAs. These proceedings relate to defection petitions filed by different factions of the Shiv Sena party.
A bench led by Chief Justice of India, D.Y. Chandrachud, along with Justices J.B. Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, will preside over the hearings. The petitions filed by NCP leader Jayant Patil and Shiv Sena leader Sunil Prabhu are listed for hearing on Monday. On October 17, the Supreme Court had given the Maharashtra Speaker, Rahul Narwekara, a final opportunity to provide a realistic schedule for deciding the pending defection petitions filed by rival factions within the Shiv Sena. These factions are led by Uddhav Thackeray and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, respectively.
The Supreme Court's involvement in these matters underscores the significance of these cases in the context of Maharashtra's political landscape.
