India recorded a single-day rise of 1,590 fresh coronavirus cases, the highest in 146 days, while the number of active cases of the infection climbed to 8,601, the health ministry said on Saturday.
The death toll due to the viral disease has gone up to 5,30,824 with six more fatalities -- three reported from Maharashtra and one each recorded in Karnataka, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand, according to the ministry's data updated at 8 am.
The daily positivity was recorded at 1.33 per cent while the weekly positivity was pegged at 1.23 per cent.
With the fresh cases, India's COVID-19 tally has climbed to 4,47,02,257.

FM Nirmala Sitharaman To Meet Chiefs Of PSU Banks Today
Finance Minister Niramala Sitharaman will meet with managing directors of public sector banks (PSBs) on Saturday to review performance in light of the failure of a few banks in the United States and Credit Suisse's liquidity crisis.
The meeting will assess banks' progress in meeting targets set for various government schemes such as Kisan Credit Card (KCC), Stand-Up India, Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY), and emergency credit line guarantee scheme (ECLGS) to assist businesses affected by COVID-19, news agency PTI reported citing sources.
This is the first full review meeting following the presentation of Budget 2023-24, and banks will be asked to focus on the Budget's highlighted areas, including credit flow to productive sectors.
According to the report, the finance minister will review financial inclusion, credit growth, asset quality, capital raising, and business growth plans of banks for the next fiscal year, as well as non-performing assets (NPAs) of Rs 100 crore and their recovery status.
The meeting takes place against a backdrop of global concern about bank failures caused by aggressive monetary tightening.
Delhi To Witness Light Rain, Partly Cloudy Sky Today
According to the India Meteorological Department, light rain in parts of the national capital reduced the temperature to 30.2 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal.
The weather was pleasant all day, with the sun peeking through the clouds for brief moments.
The city received 0.6 mm of rain until 5.30 p.m., with humidity ranging between 92% and 50%, according to the IMD. Light rain fell in Laxmi Nagar, ITO, Mandi House, Jor Bagh, Lajpat Nagar, and north Delhi.
Saturday is expected to be partly cloudy, according to the weather forecast.
According to an IMD official, "the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 30 and 16 degrees Celsius, respectively," PTI reported.
Chhattisgarh: Amit Shah To Attend CRPF’s 84th Raising Event Today
Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Chhattisgarh's Bastar district on Friday to attend the Central Reserve Police Force's 84th Raising Day event (CRPF). Security in the region has been beefed up in preparation for the high-profile visit, news agency PTI reported.
According to the report, the CRPF's annual celebration is being held for the first time in a Naxal-affected area.
The function will take place on Saturday at 8 am at the Karanpur camp of the 201st battalion of the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), an elite anti-Naxal unit of the CRPF.
