HDFC Hikes Home Loan Rates, To Be Effective From May 9

HDFC raised its Retail Prime Lending Rate (RPLR) by 30 basis points on Saturday, three days after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced a 40 basis point rise in its repo rate, resulting in an equivalent boost in home loan rates for existing clients. The increase will take effect on May 9.

All existing clients will experience a 30 basis point increase in their prices. This adjustment will also result in higher rates for new clients.

This comes only days after the company raised its benchmark lending rate by 5 basis points, causing existing customers' equivalent monthly instalments to rise. Interest rates are expected to rise as the RBI considers unwinding its liberal monetary policy in order to control inflation.
