Annual General Meeting Of WFI To Take Place Today

The meeting of the Executive Committee and the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Wrestling Federation of India will be held on January 22 in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, the president of the federation, will also take part in the meeting.

After three days of protests by top wrestlers in Delhi, demanding that Singh be removed and WFI disbanded, union sports minister Anurag Thakur announced on Friday night, after a meeting with the protesters, that Brij Bhushan Singh would step aside and an oversight committee probe the allegations against him. Thakur said the inquiry would be completed in one month.

Meanwhile, Singh said on Saturday that he would address the WFI executive committee members meeting to give his version, in Uttar Pradesh, before stepping aside.

WFI rejected all the allegations, including that of sexual harassment against its president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, and said "there is no scope for arbitrariness and mismanagement " in the sports body. "The WFI is managed by an elected body as per its constitution, and therefore, there is no scope for arbitrariness and mismanagement in WFI by any one individually, including the president," the WFI said in response to the sports ministry.
