The Congress in Goa has denied reports of talks with the Trinamool Congress over a possible alliance for the upcoming Assembly elections scheduled to be held on February 14.


Reacting to reports of Rahul Gandhi leading a discussion about an alliance with the Trinamool for Goa polls, Rao said: "There has been no discussion in the Congress regarding alliance with the Trinamool, nor was there any meeting yesterday regarding that. And they said that leaders (from Goa) have been called to Delhi. Nobody was called to Delhi. Nobody has gone. That was a report which was incorrect."

An estimated 9,896 candidates qualified in the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2021 for primary schools in West Bengal, a senior official said on Monday. TET is the minimum qualification required for appointment as teachers in the primary (Classes 1-5) and upper primary (Classes 6-8) sections of government schools. The state government will recruit teachers for Classes 1 to 5 from these eligible candidates in the future to fill up vacant posts, president of West Bengal Board of Primary Education Manik Bhattacharya said. Of the 2,45,344 candidates who had enrolled for the TET 2021, 1,89,814 appeared for the examination held on January 31, 2021.

 Actor-philanthropist Sonu Sood's sister Malvika Sood on Monday joined the Congress, with the party's Punjab chief Navjot Singh Sidhu describing the development as a "game-changer" ahead of the February 14 assembly polls.

She joined the party in the presence of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Sidhu.

"It is very rare that a party chief and the chief minister both have gone to someone's home to grant the honour, and she deserves it," Sidhu said.

The joining in was held at the Sood residence in Punjab's Moga district and the actor had last year in November said that his sister would join politics.

Asked if Malvika Sood will fight the election from the Moga assembly constituency, Channi indicated that she would be the party's choice..

As the country's major focus remains towards the rising covid cases and the new variant omicron, political activities across the five poll-bound states have started to gain pace.  


Just weeks ahead of assembly elections, the Uttar Pradesh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will launch a door-to-door campaign across the poll-bound state from today. The campaign will highlight the achievements of the ruling party government under Yogi Adityanath, which is being challenged by the Samajwadi Party and others on the electoral battlefield.


After the Makar Sankranti on January 14, the party will deploy LED Raths equipped with large TV screens to apprise voters of the government's achievements in the state, he added.

Meanwhile, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi returned from his foreign visit late last night and held election-related meetings to review the party's strategy in Goa, which is scheduled to vote in assembly polls in February 14.


Goa Congress president Girish Chodankar and Legislature Party Leader Digambar Kamat have been called to Delhi to discuss the party's possible alliances in the state.


Rahul Gandhi also held meetings with senior leaders KC Venugopal and P Chidambaram Monday evening and reviewed the party's preparations and strategy for polls in Goa.


NCP President Sharad Pawar will address a press conference today from Nationalist Bhavan, Ballard Estate at 4 pm.


Supreme Court will hear the petition against the appointment of Rakesh Asthana as Delhi Police Commissioner. The court has issued a notice to the Center on the matter and sought its response.


In this petition, filed through advocate Prashant Bhushan, it has been said that the rules have been ignored in the appointment of Asthana.
