Voting underway for Jharkhand’s Ramgarh bypoll, 18 candidates in fray

Voting for the by-election in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh assembly constituency began at 7 am on Monday amid tight security, a poll official said.


Though 18 candidates, including 14 Independents, are in the fray, the contest will be mainly between the Congress, an ally of the ruling JMM-led coalition, and the AJSU Party, which has tied up with the BJP for the poll.


The by-election was necessitated after the disqualification of Congress legislator Mamta Devi, following her conviction in a criminal case.


The Congress has fielded Mamta Devi’s husband, Bajrang Mahto, from the seat while the AJSU Party has nominated its leader Sunita Choudhary.


Over 3.34 lakh voters, including 1.61 lakh women, are eligible to exercise their franchise in the by-election. (PTI)

Jharkhand: State Assembly's Budget Session To Begin Today:


The budget session of the Jharkhand assembly will begin on Monday, news agency PTI reported citing official statements. 


The session will last 17 working days and will end on March 24. According to the report, the government will present its budget for the financial year 2023-24 on March 3.


The session will begin with Governor CP Radhakrishnan's address.


Chief Minister Hemant Soren presided over a meeting of the ruling coalition, which includes the Congress and the RJD in addition to his JMM, on Sunday to decide on the floor strategy.


"Various issues were discussed at the meeting. We want the House to function smoothly. Opposition and ruling bench members should use the opportunity to discuss issues concerning the people. Reply to all questions of the opposition will be given," Parliamentary Affairs Minister Alamgir Alam said, PTI reported. 


The BJP said its MLAs will meet on Monday to decide its strategy.


PM Modi To Release 13th Instalment Of Rs 16,800cr Under PM-KISAN On Monday: 


Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the 13th installment of financial benefits worth Rs 16,800 crore to over eight crore eligible farmers under the flagship PM-KISAN scheme on Monday ahead of Holi and rabi harvesting, an official statement said on Sunday.


Eligible farmers receive a financial reward of Rs 6,000 per year in three equal installments of Rs 2,000 each every four months under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN). The funds are deposited immediately to the beneficiaries' bank accounts.


The scheme was launched in February 2019, however, it went into action in December 2018.


More than one lakh attendees, comprising PM-KISAN and Jal Jeevan Mission beneficiaries are expected to take part in the event. The Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and Agriculture Secretary Manoj Ahuja will also be present, the statement said. 


President Murmu To Visit Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav In Bikaner Today:


The Rashtrapati Bhavan stated on Sunday that President Droupadi Murmu will visit Bikaner, Rajasthan, on Monday to attend the 14th Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav.


The Union Ministry of Culture will host the 14th edition of the event from February 25 to March 5 at Karni Singh Stadium in Bikaner.


Artists from all around India will take part in the nine-day cultural extravaganza. This event is a one-of-a-kind effort to bring attention to India's many arts, cuisines, and handicrafts in one place.


The president will visit Bikaner on Monday to grace and address the 14th Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav, according to a brief statement from the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
