Farmer Leaders To Hold Fourth Round Of Talks With Union Ministers Today
Union ministers Arjun Munda, Piyush Goyal, and Nityanand Rai are scheduled to convene with farmer leaders from Punjab on Sunday for the fourth round of discussions. Previous meetings on February 8, 12, and 15 failed to yield conclusive outcomes.
Farm leader Sarwan Singh Pandher has urged the Centre to enact an ordinance providing a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP), stressing the nation's anticipation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address farmers' demands. Pandher expressed optimism about potential positive developments following Sunday's meeting, underscoring that the government now holds the responsibility to take decisive action.
Asserting the Centre's authority to make political decisions, Pandher emphasised the importance of swift action, suggesting that an ordinance could be swiftly enacted to address farmers' concerns. The demand for a legal guarantee of MSP remains a core issue for farmers currently stationed at the borders of Punjab and Haryana.
“The whole country is looking to the powerful Prime Minister to gather up courage and take a decision on ordinance on legal guarantee to MSP and debt waiver." "We hope that we will get good news from tomorrow's meeting. We have not taken back our programme of going to Delhi. If they (the Centre) accept our demands, then the issue can get resolved. Now the ball is in the government's court,” PTI quoted Pandher as saying.
