A rare red alert has been issued for southwest England and south Wales comes after the Met Office upgraded its "danger to life". The UK’s official weather service said that the heavy rain and strong winds are continuing in northern England and other parts of Northern Ireland, including Scotland. 


The Meteorological Department's warning of a storm, Storm Eunice, led to power cuts in North East England, Cumbria, North Yorkshire, and Lancashire, as well as the cancellation of all trains in Scotland.

The official said that Indian carriers have been asked to look at having flights to Ukraine due to the increase in demand, adding that the ministry is coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) regarding the flight services.

Breaking News LIVE: ED Lodges Money Laundering Case Against ABG Shipyards

 In a key development in ABG Shipyards loan fraud case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday lodged a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

The case was lodged on the basis of the FIR filed by the CBI on the State Bank of India's complaint against the company and its directors for cheating a consortium of banks to the tune of Rs 22,842 crore.

The ED had asked the CBI to hand them over the relevant documents connected to the case, and initiated its probe into the matter. After conducting a preliminary probe and taking legal opinion, the ED decided to lodge a PMLA case.

Now, the ED can summon the Directors to join the investigation to record their statements before their officials.

Safdarjung Observatory in Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 27 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, the third straight day when the maximum temperature was above 25 degrees Celsius since the winter started receding.

All five main stations of Delhi - Safdarjung, Palam, Lodhi Road, Ridge, and Aya Nagar - recorded maximum temperature above 25 degrees Celsius, but the temperatures dipped to below 20 degrees Celsius after 9 p.m., the data from India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

The maximum temperature at Safdarjung was recorded at 26.4 degrees Celsius on February 14 and 27 degrees on February 15 even as the IMD has predicted maximum temperature to hover at 27-28 degrees Celsius on February 17.

Safdarjung's maximum temperature of 27 degrees Celsius was three notches above normal, while minimum was recorded at 9.4 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal.

As many as thirteen people lost their lives after falling into a well during wedding celebrations in the Nebua Naurangia area of the Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh. 


Earlier, Speaking on this, the District Magistrate of Kushinagar, S Rajalingam said to reporters, "We have got to know that 11 people have died and two others have been seriously injured after they accidentally fell into a well. This happened during a wedding program wherein some people were sitting on a slab of a well and due to heavy load, the slab broke."


The fatalities have now reached 13.

An earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale hit the Katra area in Reasi district in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday morning.


National Center for Seismology (NCS), a nodal agency of the Government for monitoring earthquakes, informed that the quake took place at a depth of five kilometres and about 84 kilometres East of Katra. "Earthquake of Magnitude: 3.5, Occurred on 17-02-2022, 03:02:45 IST, Lat: 33.08 and Long: 75.83, Depth: 5 Km, Location:84 km East of Katra, Jammu and Kashmir, India," tweeted NCS.
