Delhi HC To Pronounce Order On Pleas By WhatsApp, FB Against CCI Probe

The Delhi High Court will deliver its verdict on a petition challenging the order of the Competition Commission of India (CCI) to examine the new privacy policy of the messaging app. This petition has been filed in court on behalf of WhatsApp and Facebook. Earlier on July 25, the High Court had reserved its order in this matter.

The CCI last year ordered an inquiry into the new privacy policy of the messaging app, saying the policy violated the Competition Act 2000. The commission, while issuing notices to both the platforms, said that the privacy policies of both the companies were neither transparent nor based on the voluntary consent of the users. Labeling the new terms and conditions as take-it-or-leave-it, the commission said they lack clarity and are not clear to users.
