Three cattle smugglers were arrested following a brief exchange of fire with police here, officials said on Saturday.
The accused and a police constable sustained injuries during the encounter and were taken to a hospital, they said.
Circle Officer (CO) of Loni Rajneesh Upadhyay said, "Some cattle smugglers moving in a van were asked by a police to team to stop near Loni border on Friday night. But they opened fire at the police personnel".
The team fired back in retaliation and caught three of the smugglers while the fourth managed to escape, he said.
The accused used to operate in Ghaziabad district and nearby areas, police said.

The Rajasthan government on Saturday reduced Value-added tax (VAT) on petrol by Rs 2.48 per litre and diesel by Rs 1.16 per litre, following the reduction of excise duty by the Centre. Taking to Twitter, the state chief minister Ashok Gehlot wrote, "Due to the reduction in the prices of petrol and diesel by the central government, the state government will reduce VAT by Rs 2.48 per litre on petrol and Rs 1.16 per litre on diesel. With this, petrol will be cheaper by Rs 10.48 and diesel by Rs 7.16 per liter in the state." Meanwhile, the Kerala government also announced a cut in tax on the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 2.41 and Rs 1.36 respectively.

MNS Chief Raj Thackeray To Conduct Rally In Pune Today
An official claimed that police had issued various directions in connection with MNS head Raj Thackeray's rally in Pune on Sunday.
According to Swargate police station, Thackeray's remarks must not offend any community or cause ill feeling among people.
"Following points to be followed by the MNS rally organisers. Participants should not make speeches which will result in insult to any community or create tension between communities. Citizens attending meetings should follow self-discipline. Organisers should make sure they will create awareness among those attending to not raise offensive slogans," the communique from the police was quoted by PTI in its report.

Home Minister Shah 2nd Day Visit To Arunachal Pradesh On May 22
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday during his second day visit to Arunachal Preadesh will meet with social organisations and do puja at the Golden Pagoda in Namsai district, near Tengapani.
According to authorities, Shah would later address a public assembly on Namsai general ground and announce significant projects.
Shah's visit to Arunachal Pradesh is part of a massive cross-country trip that has seen him attend a number of public, political, and governmental events.
He last visited Arunachal Pradesh in 2020 to commemorate the state's 34th anniversary.
