North Korea Launches Ballistic Missile After US Bombers Fly Over Korean Peninsula


North Korea launched a ballistic missile toward the sea hours after the United States flew bombers to the Korean Peninsula in a show of force against North Korea as part of its annual drills with South Korea.


Congress Leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury's Lok Sabha Suspension Revoked


The Privileges Committee of Lok Sabha on Wednesday revoked the suspension of Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury from the lower house of Parliament.

 

The resolution came into effect after Chowdhury personally appeared before the Committee and expressed regret for certain statements he had made in the House that had led to his suspension from Lok Sabha.

Breaking News Live: Temple Priest Murdered In Rajasthan's Tonk, Markets Shut In Protest

A 93-year-old priest, Mahant Siyaram Das Maharaj, of Bhuriya Mahadev Baba Dham was murdered in Diggi town of  Rajasthan's Tonk district sparking outrage and protests, as reported by news agency IANS. The police said he was murdered on Tuesday night.


The locals found the body on Wednesday when they went to the temple to worship, and soon a crowd gathered there.


People staged a protest outside the temple demanding the arrest of the killers. On receiving this information, Superintendent of Police Rajarshi Raj Verma reached the spot. As per locals, the priest used to worship the ancient Bhuriya Mahadev Baba Dham in Diggi for the past 50 years. He lived alone in the temple.

'Drone Strike' In Russia 'Damages' 4 Heavy Transport Planes

A drone attack on Pskov city in northwestern Russia has reportedly damaged four heavy transport planes early on Wednesday. "The defence ministry is repelling a drone attack in Pskov's airport," Regional Governor Mikhail Vedernikov wrote on social media, posting a video of a massive fire.


"I arrived on the site at the very start of the incident. According to preliminary information, there have been no casualties. The scope of damage is now being assessed," Vedernikov later wrote on his Telegram channel. An unconfirmed Russian media report says four Ilyushin 76 transport planes were damaged at the airport, the BBC reported.


Pskov is more than 600km (372 miles) away from Ukraine, close to the border with Estonia.

The Karnataka government will on Wednesday launch 'Gruha Lakshmi' scheme, offering monthly aid of Rs 2,000 each to about 1.1 crore women heads of family at a public function in Mysuru. The event will be attended by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and party leader Rahul Gandhi.


"As many as 1.1 crore women heads of households will be given Rs 2,000 every month," Karnataka Chief Minister Siddararamaiah told reporters in Mysuru, his home district. The government has earmarked Rs 17,500 crore for 'Gruha Lakshmi' programme in the current financial year. 


'Gruha Lakshmi' scheme is one of the five pre-poll 'guarantees' of the Congress, which ousted the BJP from power in the Assembly elections held in May.


India Allows Export Of Non-Basmati Rice To Singapore 


On Tuesday, India allowed the export of non-Basmati rice to Singapore to meet the food requirements. "India and Singapore enjoy a very close strategic partnership, characterized by shared interests, close economic ties and strong people to people connect, said the MEA in a statement. The Singaporean authorities had been in close contact with Indian authorities to seek exemption from the country's ban on export of non-basmati rice, Singapore Food Agency said on Friday.


"Singapore Food Agency (SFA) is working closely with importers to increase the import of different varieties of rice from various sources. Singapore is also in close contact with the Indian authorities to seek exemption from the ban," it said in a statement. 


India Registers Strong Protest Over China Map


India registered a strong protest through diplomatic channels with Beijing on Tuesday over China's "standard map” of 2023 which lays claim on Indian terrirories of Arunachal Pradesh, Aksai Chin region, apart from Taiwan and the disputed South China Sea.


In response to media queries on the matter, External Affairs Ministry's Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi Monday said, "We have today lodged a strong protest through diplomatic channels with the Chinese side on the so-called 2023 "standard map” of China that lays claim to India’s territory."


"We reject these claims as they have no basis. Such steps by the Chinese side only complicate the resolution of the boundary question,” he added.
