Breaking News Live — 397 Maoists Arrested, 9 Killed, 26 Surrendered In Jharkhand This Year: Police

Jharkhand police on Friday said 397 Maoists were arrested, nine killed, and 26 surrendered before security forces across the state this year, as reported by news agency PTI. A special area committee member, a regional committee member, five zonal commanders, and 11 sub-zonal commanders were among those arrested. These individuals had a combined bounty of Rs 1.01 crore on their heads, a statement said.


Police also seized 152 arms, including 27 police weapons, 10,350 ammunition, and 244 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) over the past 12 months.


 


 

Couple, Minor Daughter Found Hanging Inside Home In Raipur

A couple and their 14-year-old daughter were found hanging inside their house in Chhattisgarh’s capital Raipur, police said on Friday. The man worked as a driver for a steel trader, as reported by news agency PTI. Police suspect that the trio might have died by suicide.


Lakhanlal Sen (48), his wife Ranu Sen (42) and daughter Payal were found hanging from a hook, used to hang ceiling fans, with a rope inside a room in their home in BSUP colony under Tikrapara police station limits on Thursday late evening, a police official said, as reported by PTI.

ULFA, Centre, Assam Govt To Sign Memorandum Of Settlement Today: 


The Assam Chief Minister's Office has announced that a tripartite memorandum of settlement will be signed in New Delhi on Friday between the ULFA (pro-talks faction) and the central and state governments.


''A Memorandum of Settlement will be signed between the Government of India, the Government of Assam, and representatives of the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) tomorrow at 5 pm in New Delhi in the presence of the Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Sh. Amit Shah,'' the CMO announced on 'X'.


Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is scheduled to attend the signing, retweeted the post as well.


A 16-member ULFA pro-talks delegation, led by chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa, arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday to meet with Shah before the agreement is signed.


Anup Chetia, the outfit's general secretary, has been camping in New Delhi since Monday and met with peace mediator AK Mishra on Tuesday. The Centre sent a draft of the proposed agreement to the pro-talks faction in April, and another round of talks with the faction was held in New Delhi in August. Chetia stated in October that they had sent their suggestions for the draft proposals to the Centre.


NSG, Police To Conduct Security Mock Drills In Pune On Friday: 


An official said on Thursday that the elite National Security Guard and police will conduct security drills in Maharashtra's Pune city on Friday as part of an annual exercise, urging citizens not to panic, PTI reported.


The simulated counter-terrorism operation will last 36 hours and will take place at the College of Agriculture, Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Temple, and the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, a Defence Research and Development Organisation lab, according to Commissioner of Police Retesh Kumar.


He described it as an annual exercise conducted by the anti-terror agency in major cities with a terror-related history.


The mock drills will include personnel from Maharashtra police's Force One, Pune police, the fire brigade, the health department, and the Pune civic body, in addition to NSG commandos, he said.
