Home Minister Amit Shah Calls All-Party Meet To Discuss Manipur Situation
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has convened an all-party meeting on June 24 in New Delhi to discuss the situation in Manipur which has witnessed sporadic violence since May 3.
"Union Home Minister Shri @AmitShah has convened an all party meeting on 24th June at 3 PM in New Delhi to discuss the situation in Manipur," a home ministry spokesperson tweeted. The announcement came after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met the home minister here this evening. Sarma is also the convenor of the NDA's Northeast chapter NEDA (North-East Democratic Alliance).
He had also visited Imphal a fortnight ago and met Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and a number of political leaders. Violent clashes broke out in Manipur after a 'Tribal Solidarity March' was organised in the hill districts on May 3 to protest against the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
So far, nearly 120 people have lost their lives and over 3,000 are injured. Amit Shah had also visited the state for four days last month and met a cross sections of people in his efforts to bring back peace in the northeastern state.
PM Modi’s Two-Day State Visit To Egypt Begins Today
Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his first visit to Egypt beginning on Saturday will pay tribute to the brave Indian soldiers who fought and lost their lives in Egypt and Palestine during World War I.
Modi's two-day state visit to Egypt at the invitation of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is the first bilateral visit by an Indian prime minister since 1997.
He will visit the Heliopolis Commonwealth War Grave Cemetery here, a solemn site that serves as a memorial to nearly 4,000 soldiers from the Indian Army who served and perished in Egypt and Palestine during World War I.
"We are informed that the Prime Minister will soon come to visit the cemetery. Egyptians are generous people and will welcome him," Marwan, a local resident, said.
"The Commonwealth Cemetery is known to be for the soldiers who fought here during the World War. We always welcome visitors and tourists here and in Egypt in general, especially the Indian Prime Minister. We are honoured to have him visit us anywhere in Egypt," Mahmoud, who works next to the cemetery, said.
