The ongoing search operation to trace one of the two missing pilots of an Indian Army helicopter that crashed into the Ranjit Sagar Dam lake in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district, entered 21st day on Monday without any luck, officials said.


Twelve days after the fatal crash of the helicopter in the expansive lake, the body of one pilot, Lieutenant Colonel A S Baath, was recovered on August 7 from the water body while the search is on for the second pilot, they said, reports PTI.


"The search operation for the pilot and ALH MK-II Rudra chopper, which crashed into the Ranjit Sagar Dam on August 3, is going on in full swing," Defence spokesperson Lt Col Devender Anand said.

Breaking News LIVE, 24 August, 2021:  Maharashtra recorded 27 new cases of the Delta Plus COVID-19 variant on Monday, taking the total number of Delta Plus cases in the state to 103, according to the state health department.


Meanwhile, out of the 188 samples of the first batch sent to Mumbai's Kasturba hospital for genome sequencing of COVID-19 positive patients in the capital, 128 have been identified with the Delta variant -- 68 per cent of the samples.


An encounter broke out between militants and security forces in Sopore area of Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir early Tuesday, police said.


Security forces launched a cordon and search operation at Pethseer in Sopore area late Monday night following information about the presence of militants there, a police official said.


He said the search operation turned into an encounter in the early hours of Tuesday as the ultras opened fire on the security forces' positions.


There were no reports of any casualties so far on either side.
