Odisha To Get New Minister Today:
The Odisha cabinet will induct new ministers on Monday, with Governor Ganeshi Lal administering the oath at a ceremony at the Lok Seva Bhavan, PTI reported.
According to the report, Bhanjanagar MLA Bikram Keshari Arukha, who resigned as speaker of the assembly last week, received a phone call from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to take oath as a minister. Patnaik also called Rourkela MLA Sarada Prasad Nayak and Bangiriposi MLA Sudam Marandi for the ceremony, they said.
The governor returned to Bhubaneswar on Sunday, a day ahead of schedule, after a private visit to his home state of Haryana.
Three-Day Karnataka Assembly Session Begins Today:
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced on Saturday that the Assembly will convene for three days beginning May 22 to administer oaths to newly elected MLAs and elect a new Speaker.
Siddaramaiah was sworn in as Chief Minister for the second time today, along with state Congress president D K Shivakumar as Deputy Chief Minister and eight legislators as Ministers, exactly a week after the party swept the Karnataka Assembly elections.
"We are requesting the Governor to call the Assembly session for three days -- Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday -- because the new Assembly must be formed by May 24," Siddaramaiah said.
Tripura BJP State Executive Meeting On Monday:
The BJP Tripura state executive meeting to plan the party's strategy for the 2024 Lok Sabha election will be held on May 22 at Charilam in Sepahijala district, according to a senior party leader, PTI reported.
The BJP's loss of 11% vote share in the 2023 Tripura Assembly election has rung an alarm bell in the ruling party. The number of seats has decreased from 36 in 2019 to 32 this year.
The presidents of the party's district units are expected to present their reports on the party's organisational position, according to Rajib Bhattacharjee, the party's state president. As per the report, the meeting will include BJP state in-charge Mahesh Sharma, Chief Minister Manik Saha, and Bhattacharjee, among other party leaders.
