The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday arrested a city-based businessman for his alleged involvement in the Pincon chit fund scam, an official said. Kaustav Roy, who was summoned by the ED on Monday for questioning at the central probe agency's city office, was arrested around 1 am, he said.
Roy's mobile phone has also been seized, the official said, adding that the businessman was also booked for his alleged involvement in bank fraud and scams related to advertisements. “Mr Roy was arrested after he refused to cooperate with our officers last evening. We think he is trying to hide information. We have seized his mobile phone as well,” the officer told PTI.
Tamil Nadu Minister V Senthil Balaji’s wife Megala has moved the Supreme Court challenging the Madras High Court's judgment in the money laundering case registered by Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The National Investigation Agency, on 17th July, attached a poultry farm in Madhya Pradesh, which was used by members of an ISIS-inspired terror group, ‘Sufa’, in connection with a conspiracy to perpetrate acts of terror in Rajasthan.
The property attached by the NIA under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967 is located in village Julwaniya, Viryakhedi Road, Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh. It was owned by accused Imran Khan and was used by ‘Sufa’ members for radicalising new cadres and training them in making Improvised Explosive Devices.
The NIA had earlier registered a case against ‘Sufa’, a newly formed local terror group, in April 2022, in connection with ‘Sufa’s criminal conspiracy to plan and carry out terrorist acts in Rajasthan.
Agency's investigations have revealed that ‘Sufa’ was deeply inspired by the activities of ISIS and was inclined toward the Jihadi ideology. Members of ‘Sufa’ had motivated other youth of the area also to join this group for carrying out terror acts.

Five people were killed, and five others were injured after a Cessna plane crashed into an airfield hangar in central Poland. In the city of Chrcynno, the plane on Monday evening hit the hangar where people were sheltering, Andrzej Bartkowiak, chief commandant of the State Fire Service in Poland, said on social media, confirming the casualties.
He also said the plane was landing in bad weather, which might have led to the accident, Xinhua news agency reported.

PM Modi To Inaugurate Integrated Terminal Building At Port Blair Airport
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the integrated terminal building of the Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair on Tuesday via video conferencing. The Prime Minister's Office said the new facility, built at a cost of around Rs 710 crore, will play a key role in enhancing connectivity to the island, a union territory. With a total built-up area of around 40,800 sqm, the building will be capable of handling about 50 lakh passengers annually.
An apron suitable for two Boeing-767-400 and two Airbus-321 type aircraft has also been constructed at the airport at a cost of Rs 80 crore, making it suitable for parking 10 aircraft at a time, the PMO said. The architectural design of the airport terminal resembles a shell-shaped structure, depicting the sea and islands.
The new airport terminal building has a number of sustainability features like a double-insulated roofing system to reduce heat gain, skylights to provide maximum inlet of sunlight during the day to reduce artificial light usage inside the building, LED lighting, and low heat gain glazing, it added.
The spacious new integrated terminal building will boost air traffic and help enhance tourism in the region, the PMO said, adding it will also help create enhanced employment opportunities for the local community and give a fillip to the economy of the region.
BJP To Bring No-Trust Motion In Chhattisgarh Assembly's Monsoon Session Beginning Today
The Chhattisgarh legislative Assembly's monsoon session will begin on Tuesday and it is likely to be a stormy affair with the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) looking to target the Congress government on a number of issues, including alleged scams, and also bring a no-trust motion ahead of polls, news agency PTI reported. It will be the last session of the Assembly before the state goes to polls by the year-end.
The BJP has decided to corner the Bhupesh Baghel-led Congress dispensation on several issues, including alleged scams and agitations being staged by contractual employees of government departments demanding regularisation of service.
The main Opposition party will also move a no-confidence motion against the Congress government during the four-day-long session, as per PTI.
Monsoon Session Of Goa Assembly To Begin Today
The 18-day monsoon session of the Goa legislative Assembly will begin from Tuesday, with the Opposition gearing up to corner Dr Pramod Sawant-led government on various issues. As per a circular issued by the state legislature department, the monsoon session will be held from July 18 to August 10, for 18 days excluding Saturdays and Sundays.
A senior member of the Opposition benches told PTI that the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Goa Forward Party (GFP) have already worked out a joint strategy to corner the state government on various issues. The implementation of National Education Policy (NEP), auctioning of mines, drugs, prostitution, law and order situation, diversion of Mhadei river are some of the issues that the Opposition will raise, he said.
