Belagavi Woman Assault: K'taka BJP To Stage Statewide Agitation
The Karnataka BJP unit will hold a statewide agitation on December 16 to condemn the Belagavi incident in which a woman was assaulted and paraded naked, according to party president B Y Vijayendra, news agency PTI reported. While eight people have been arrested and eight more are being sought, the Karnataka High Court has taken up the case on its own.
The woman was also tied to a pole after her son eloped with a girl from the same community on December 11 in Vantamuri village, Belagavi. Vijayendra told reporters here that the state government has not taken the case seriously because the eight accused are still at large.
He also stated that the chief minister has yet to meet the survivor in the hospital. "An incident like this happening in Belagavi, where the Legislature session is in progress and the entire government is camping here, shows the scant regard for government and law enforcement agencies among criminals," Vijayendra went on to say.
The BJP state president stated that the law and order situation had deteriorated to the point where the High Court stated that the incident was worse than what happened to Draupadi in Mahabharata, because Lord Krishna came to her rescue, whereas no one came to help the victim in the Belagavi incident.
