Delhi Congress To Hold 'Chaupals' In Solidarity With Women Wrestlers Today
The Delhi Congress will organise public meets in solidarity with the women wrestlers who have accused Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment, a party leader said on Friday. These "chaupal" meetings will be held on June 11. "The first public meet will start at 11 am on Sunday in Babarpur. Another meeting will be held in Mehrauli in the second half of the day," a party leader said.
All senior Delhi Congress leaders are expected to attend these meetings. According to the party leader, Devender Yadav, whose name has been doing the rounds for the post of Delhi Congress president, planned these meetings in support of the women wrestlers.
The wrestlers have demanded the arrest of outgoing WFI chief Singh, who they have accused of sexually exploiting women wrestlers. The Delhi Police, which has recorded statements of more than 200 people in connection with the case, will file a charge sheet in the case by June 15, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur has assured the protesting wrestlers.
The wrestlers have agreed to halt their protest until then.
India To Host G20 Development Ministers' Meeting In Varanasi From Today
India will host a three-day meeting of development ministers of the G20 member nations in Varanasi beginning Sunday that is expected to focus on disruptions in global supply chains, food and energy security challenges and impacts of climate change among other issues.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver a special video address at the beginning of the meeting which will be chaired by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
Around 200 delegates are expected to attend the meeting, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). India is hosting the meeting in its capacity as the current chair of G20.
The G20 development ministers' conclave follows the Voice of the Global South Summit that was hosted by India in January, and the decisions taken at the Varanasi meet will also contribute to the UN summit on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in September, the MEA said.
India-Bangladesh Border Talks To Begin In Delhi From Today
India and Bangladesh will hold biannual talks between their border guarding forces in Delhi from June 11 during which the two sides are expected to discuss a host of issues related to combating cross-frontier crimes and measures to create better synergy.
A 15-member delegation of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), led by its director general (DG) Major General AKM Nazmul Hasan, landed in Delhi on Saturday. Border Security Force (BSF) DG Sujoy Lal Thaosen and senior officers of the force welcomed them at the airport, officials said.
The four-day talks will conclude on June 14 at a BSF camp in southwest Delhi's Chhawla area. "The conference is being organised to discuss the border-related issues and for better coordination between both border guarding forces." "Discussions will be held on how to jointly curb the various trans-border crimes and timely sharing of information between both the border guarding forces," a BSF spokesperson said in a statement.
