Wrestlers protest against their federation chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has been intensifying with each passing day. Bharat Kisan Union leader Naresh Tikait will hold a 'mahapanchayat' on Thursday in support of the grapplers who have accused Singh of sexual harassment and Samyukt Kisan Morcha has called for a nationwide protest.
Meanwhile, Union home minister Amit Shah, who is on a four-day visit to strife-torn Manipur will hold a press conference on Wednesday.
Naresh Tikait To Hold 'Mahapanchayat', SKM Calls For Nationwide
A mahapanchayat will be held in Muzaffarnagar's Soram village on Thursday to discuss the ongoing protest by the wrestlers, announced BKU leader Naresh Tikait. The Balyan khap head, Tikait on Tuesday said that the matter will be discussed in detail in the mahapanchayat, as per a PTI report.
Tikait made the announcement for the mahapanchayat after a drama-filled Tuesday when the star wrestlers announced to immerse their World and Olympic medals in Ganga river in Haridwar but refrained after being convinced by Khap and farmer leaders who sought five days to address their grievances.
Meanwhile, Samyukta Kisan Morcha has called for a nationwide protest in support of wrestlers.
In a statement the SKM said it has given the call for the nationwide agitation "to secure the democratic right to protest by the Indian wrestlers" and all other sections of society and to "demand the arrest of BJP MP Brij Bhushan Saran Singh", as per another PTI report.
The Morcha will coordinate with platforms of trade unions, women, youth, students and all other sections, including intellectuals, to stage demonstrations across India, it said.
Amit Shah To Hold Press Conference
Union home minister Amit Shah, who is on a four-day visit to the strife-torn Manipur, will hold a press conference today. On Wednesday the Union minister visited the relief camps of Meiti and Kuki communities and ensured restoration of peace in the state as early as possible.
He said that the security forces have been tasked to recover looted weapons in the state and said stern and prompt actions will be taken against armed miscreants to avoid violence.
Shah also convened a meeting with civil society groups in Kangpokpi, Manipur; says people are keen to revive harmony among communities.
Monsoon Likely To Arrive In Kerala
Looking at the pace of monsoon, it is estimated that on June 1, rains will start in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, by June 5 in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Northeast. Monsoon will reach Maharashtra and Telangana by June 10 while it is estimated to reach in most parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Bengal, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh from June 15.
From June 20, showers will likely reach Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal and Jammu-Kashmir. This phase of monsoon will continue till July 8.
