Man Chops Off Tongue As Sacrificial Offering To God In Chhattisgarh

A 33-year-old man cut off his tongue to offer it to god in Durg district of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday, police said, as reported by news agency PTI. The incident took place this morning at Thanaud village under the Anjora police chowki limits, a local police official said.


As per the preliminary information, Rajeshwar Nishad went to a pond in the village and after reciting some mantras, chopped off his tongue with a knife and placed it on a stone on the bank of the water body. When villagers spotted him bleeding in the temple, they called an ambulance and shifted him to the district hospital here, he said.


On being informed, a police team reached the spot, he said.

SC To Hear On May 8 Plea On Uttarakhand Forest Fires


The Supreme Court said on Monday it will hear on May 8 a plea on forest fires in Uttarakhand where 910 such incidents have occurred since November 1 last year damaging forests in about 1145 hectares.The matter came up for hearing before a bench of Justices B R Gavai and Sandeep Mehta.An advocate, who has filed an application for impleadment in the matter, told the bench that almost 44 per cent of forests in Kumaon region of Uttarakhand was burning and the biggest shock was that 90 per cent of these fires were man-made.I am telling your lordships something which is shocking. It's all carbon flying all over the place.


The biggest shock is 90 per cent of it is man-made, the lawyer said, adding, even today's report are absolutely sad… 44 per cent (forest) of Kumaon is burning.You said 44 per cent under fire? the bench asked.The lawyer replied in the affirmative and said the whole area is covered with pine trees.


Foreign Secretary Kwatra Set To Visit Bangladesh Wednesday


 Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra is set to travel to Bangladesh on Wednesday to review ties between the two countries and prepare the grounds for a likely visit to India by Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, people familiar with the matter said.In Dhaka, Kwatra will hold wide-ranging talks with his Bangladeshi counterpart Masud Bin Momen on the entire gamut of bilateral relations and ways to further expand the ties, they said.The foreign secretary is also likely to call on Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud.Kwatra's visit is also aimed at preparing grounds for PM Hasina's planned trip to India in June, the people cited above said.Mahmud visited India in February. It was in his first bilateral foreign trip after Hasina came to power for a fifth term after a landslide victory in the parliamentary elections in January.
