Monsoon Onset Over Kerala, Northeast Likely By Thursday

Driven by Cyclone Remal, the southwest monsoon is expected to arrive on the Kerala coast and parts of the northeast by Thursday, one day earlier than the weather office initially predicted.

As per the report of PTI, Previously, the IMD had forecasted the monsoon to hit Kerala by May 31.

Meteorologists explained that Cyclone Remal, which impacted West Bengal and Bangladesh on Sunday, had drawn the monsoon flow to the Bay of Bengal, potentially causing its early arrival in the northeast.

"The conditions also continue to become favourable for the further advance of the southwest monsoon into more parts of the South Arabian Sea, remaining parts of the Maldives, Comorin, Lakshadweep, southwest and central Bay of Bengal, northeast Bay of Bengal, and some parts of the northeastern states during the same period," the IMD stated.
