The police in Maharashtra’s Thane district have registered a case against a couple and their son for allegedly cheating a builder of nearly Rs 42 lakh over the sale of land, an official said on Thursday.
In his complaint, the 27-year-old builder, who lives in the Bhiwandi area, said the accused and he had signed an agreement a few months ago towards the sale of more than 15 acres of land in the district.
The builder alleged that he and his family paid Rs 42 lakh to the accused in connection with the deal but the accused neither got the land transferred nor refunded the money.
While the accused sold the land to others, they abused and threatened to harm the builder whenever he sought a refund, the official said citing the complaint.
Acting on a complaint by the builder, the Shanti Nagar police in Bhiwandi registered a case against the couple and their son on Tuesday, the official added. (PTI Input)

The Supreme Court's recent order directing the Himachal Pradesh government to review its policies on child care leaves (CCL) concerning working mothers, especially mothers of children with disability, highlights the importance of a nation-wide strategy for care economy. The top court on March 22, took note of the lack of policy framework in Himachal to provide CCL to mothers of differently abled children, and directed the state government to constitute a committee headed by the State Commissioner under the Rights of Persons With Disability Act 2016 to examine the possible solutions. At least two Maoists were killed early on Thursday in a gun battle between red rebels and security forces in Odisha's Boudh district, police said.
The exchange of fire between Maoists and personnel of Odisha’s elite Special Operation Group (SOG) took place in Parhel reserve forest under Kantamal Police Station limits, a senior officer said.
“Two bodies of Maoists along with arms, grenades and other articles were recovered from the operation site,” he said.

A 70-year-old man died of burn injuries after a fire broke out at a grocery shop in Mumbai, officials said on Thursday.
The blaze was reported at 11.54 pm on Wednesday at the single-storey shop located in a chawl (row tenement) at Jai Bhavani Nagar in Antop Hill area, a civic official said.
The victim, Pannalal Vaishya, was stranded on the upper section of the shop, he said.
Members of the public told the fire brigade personnel that before their arrival at the spot, two cylinder blasts occurred on the upper floor of the structure, he said.
The blaze was confined to electric wiring and installations, household articles and grocery materials on the ground and upper floors of the structure.
The fire brigade doused the blaze within 20 minutes, the official said.
Thereafter, Vaishya was rescued and rushed to the nearby Sion Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. He had suffered 100 per cent burn injuries, the official said. (PTI Input)
Mumbai Police on Thursday said that the bodies of two missing children aged 5 and 7 years were found in a car in the Antop Hill area. There were no injury marks on the bodies of the children. It is believed that the kids locked themselves inside the car while playing and died due to suffocation. An ADR has been registered but the post-mortem report is still awaited, ANI reported.

Six persons, including a girl child died in a road accident in this district on Thursday, when the car they were travelling in collided with a stationary truck, police said.
The accident happened near Kodada town in this district, located about 180 km from state capital Hyderabad.
The car carrying the victims collided with the truck parked on the roadside for repairs, along the Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway, Kodada DSP Sridhar Reddy told PTI.

Border Security Force (BSF) on Thursday notified about the presence of a drone in the border area of Tarn Taran district, a joint search operation by BSF troops with Punjab Police was conducted in the suspected area. At about 7 pm, troops recovered one drone in a farming field adjacent to the village Khemkaran in Tarn Taran District. The recovered drone has been identified as a China-made DJI Mavic 3 Classic: PRO, Punjab Frontier.
The Jharkhand Government, in a statement issued by the Animal Husbandry Directorate, of Ranchi, said, "RRT Team formed under Action Plan for the culling of poultry and cleaning & disinfection of infected area within 1 km of Epic Centre in poultry area, Hotwa. H5N1 Avian Influenza detected in poultry of the area".
A fire broke out in a slum in Mumbai's Antop Hill area at 5 AM today. A cylinder also exploded due to the fire, in which two people were injured. As soon as information about the fire was received, fire brigade personnel reached the spot and controlled the blaze.

Security personnel on Wednesday recovered three powerful Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) during an anti-Maoist operation launched in the extremist-hit Jimki Ikir village in West Singhbhum district, police said in a statement.
The village falls within the limits of the Tonto police station of the district.

A 35-year-old cyclist died when he fell off a flyover after being hit by a speeding car in southeast Delhi's Badarpur area on Wednesday, police said.
The victim, Hargobind Singh, worked as a security guard with an export company in Haryana's Faridabad and was returning home at the time of the accident. He lived with his brother in a rented accommodation in Faridabad, they said.
Police said the car driver, Yogendra Narain (56), has been booked under sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code and his vehicle has been impounded.
Narian was going towards Faridabad from Sarita Vihar when he lost control of his vehicle and hit Singh's cycle from behind, a police officer said.
Due to the impact of the collision, Singh was flung into the air before falling off the flyover. He died on the spot, the officer said. (PTI Input)

Shah To Launch BJP’s Poll Campaign In Odisha On Thursday
BJP leader Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to kick off his party’s campaign from Sonepur in Odisha on Thursday for the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.Shah will address a public meeting at Sonepur in western Odisha within the Bolangir Lok Sabha constituency, said BJP state president Manmohan Samal.The top BJP leader will arrive at Veer Surendra Sai Airport at Jharsuguda from Hyderabad at 3.45 pm and travel to Sonepur in a helicopter. Shah will address the public meeting at Rameswaram Stadium at Sonepur at about 4.35 pm, party sources said.Stating that all arrangements are in place for Shah’s public meeting, BJP state vice-president Golak Mohapatra said Sonepur has been chosen as the venue for Shah's public meeting to counter the BJD.Notably, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will contest from the Kantabanji assembly segment within the Bolangir parliamentary constituency.
Arjan Singh Memorial Hockey Tournament To Begin On Thursday
The 5th edition of Marshal of the Air Force Arjan Singh Memorial Hockey tournament will be held from April 25 to 30 at 3 Base Repair Depot (BRD) of the IAF here. Twelve teams are participating in the tournament including two from overseas -- Bangladesh and Sri Lanka Air Force. The tournament will be played on league and knockout basis. Addressing a news conference at 3 BRD here, Air Vice Marshal Sartaj Bedi said: We look forward to expanding the tournament in the times to come with able guidance from Hockey India. When asked if the tournament has lived up to its expectations of uplifting the game to a highly competitive level comparable to international standards, he said, Definitely, we found that our team has been performing increasingly better.
It also gives us an opportunity to interact with peer forces from friendly foreign countries as well as learn from the teams of other participants taking part in the tournament, he said. Asked if the tournament in its future editions can see an increase in the number of foreign participants, Bedi said, Definitely, for sure. It is on our agenda.
