Biden Administration Issues Rules For Airlines For Automatic Cash Refunds For Cancelled And Delayed Flights

The Biden administration has enacted new regulations aimed at improving consumer rights in air travel. Under these rules, airlines will be obligated to offer automatic cash refunds within a short timeframe for canceled flights and significant delays. Additionally, airlines will be required to enhance transparency by disclosing fees associated with baggage and reservation cancelations more prominently, reported AP.

Breaking News LIVE: AIUDF Chief Ajmal To Move SC against Closure Of Govt Madrassas In Assam

AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal has said he will move the Supreme Court against the Assam government's decision to close the state-run madrassas.


The sitting Dhubri MP expressed hope that the apex court will order reopening of all closed madrasas in Assam.


"UP government announced the closure of madrasas and later, the Supreme Court condemned them. With this reference, we will go to the Supreme Court and will get the order from there," Ajmal told reporters on the sidelines of an election campaign meeting on Tuesday.


In December last year, 1,281 Upper Primary Middle English (ME) Madrassas were converted into general ME schools across Assam.


Earlier in April 2021, all the 610 state-run madrassas under the Madrassa Board were converted into upper primary, high and higher secondary schools with no change of status, pay, allowances and service conditions of teaching and non-teaching staff.


In December 2020, The Assam Madrassa Education (Provincialisation) Act, 1995 and The Assam Madrassa Education (Provincialisation of Services of Employees and Re-Organisation of Madrassa Educational Institutions) Act, 2018 were repealed. (PTI Input)

As many as 67 suspected people were detained for questioning in connection with the killing of a civilian by two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists in a village in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Wednesday.


During investigations, credible evidence was obtained and the police identified one of the two terrorists involved in committing this act as a “foreign terrorist” with code name Abu Hamza, the officials said.


Police further released the pictures of Hamza and announced a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh on him, they said.


“A case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Thanamandi. Till now, 67 suspected persons have been detained for questioning post this incident,” police said in a statement. (PTI Input)

A retired Army personnel has been arrested with illegal arms in the neighbouring Shamli district, police said on Wednesday.


A rifle, two guns and 65 cartridges were recovered from retired Army jawan Neeraj Kumar following a raid at Harmajpur village under Kandhla police station on Tuesday evening, Circle Officer Amardeep Singh said.


It was found that during his time in the Army, Kumar stole cartridges and kept arms with him, the CO said.


He added that a case has been lodged against the jawan and investigations are underway. (PTI Input)

Breaking News LIVE: 2 Killed, Over Dozen Injured After Tractor-Trolley Overturns In UP's Shahjahanpur

Two people were killed and 20 were injured when a tractor-trolley overturned here, police said on Wednesday. Some villagers from Biharipur and Azimabad had gone to see a fair in Kapsenda village under Tilhar police station and were returning in a tractor-trolley late Tuesday night when the accident took place, Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Meena said.


When the tractor-trolley reached Janyuri village on Nigohi road of Tilhar, the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned killing Amit Kumar (40) and Murali (60), SP Meena said.


He added that 20 others, including six women, who got injured in the incident have been admitted to a government medical college.


The bodies have been sent for postmortem, the SP said.


Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has condoled the death of the two people and directed the district officials to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured. (PTI Input)

Breaking News LIVE: Minor Dies Of Electrocution In Delhi's Chhawla During Thunderstorm

A 12-year-old boy was electrocuted when he came in contact with an electric pole in Delhi, which saw thunderstorms last evening, police said.


The victim, identified as Kaif Mohammad, was outside his house when the incident took place in Khaira village in Chhawla area on Tuesday evening.


He got electrocuted after coming in contact with an electric pole amid thunderstorm and dust storm in the national capital, a police officer said.


The boy was rushed to RTRM Hospital where he was declared brought dead, the officer said.


The district’s crime team and officials from the power department inspected the spot and a case under relevant sections has been registered at Chhawla Police Station, he added.


Gusty winds with a speed of 40 to 70 kilometres per hour swept the national capital as parts of the city received light intensity rain on Tuesday. (PTI Input)

Following a recommendation by a High-Powered Committee (HPC) of Supreme Court, an elephant has been transferred from Jaipur's Amber to Vantara elephant sanctuary in Jamnagar, Gujarat due to deteriorating physical and mental health.


The recommendation was based on an independent veterinary expert assessment commissioned by the HPC as a result of a complaint filed by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India citing the elephant's deteriorating physical and mental health.


The elephant, Malti, was recently shifted to the wildlife sanctuary in Jamnagar.


The decision to transfer Malti was supported by an opinion signed by 120 veterinarians confirming reports that the elephant “exhibited behaviour such as repetitively swaying and bobbing her head”, a statement by PETA said. (PTI Input)

Breaking News LIVE: Mumbai Police Rescues 5 Women From Flesh Trade In Thane

Five women have been rescued from flesh trade in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said on Wednesday.


A 27-year-old woman, hailing from Parbhani, was arrested on Monday for allegedly running the prostitution racket, they said Acting on a tip, a team of the police's anti-human trafficking cell kept a vigil on Monday and spotted the accused with five women at a spot on Kalwa Vitava road.


The police sent a decoy customer to trap the woman and caught her, an official said.


The accused was booked under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, he said.


The five rescued women, in the age group of 22 to 33 years and hailing from Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, were sent to a shelter home, the official said. (PTI Input)

Breaking News LIVE: DRI Seizes Smuggled Gold Worth Over Rs. 10.48 Cr In Mumbai

Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Wednesday said based on specific intelligence that gold smuggled from Africa through Mumbai International Airport was being processed at a melting facility to remove the foreign markings and being diverted to the local market, the DRI team initiated action on 22nd April.


In this operation, DRI seized 9.67 Kg smuggled gold, 18.48 Kg silver, Indian currency of Rs. 1.92 Cr and USD 190000, a total worth Rs. 10.48 Cr. Four persons, including the 2 carriers, the recruiter and the melter admitted to being involved in the smuggling of gold into India and, hence, were arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962 and remanded to judicial custody, DRI said.

Breaking News LIVE: NIA Apprehends Key Accused In 2022 Attari Border Narcotics Haul Case

In a major breakthrough, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested the key accused in the 2022 Attari border narcotics haul case, an official statement issued on Tuesday said.


The key accused, Tahseem alias Mota son of Nafees Ahmad, a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Shamli, is the seventh person to be arrested in the case, the statement issued by the NIA said.


Around 103 kg of heroin, valued at approximately Rs 700 crore, was seized by the Customs department in April 2022 after it was smuggled into India from Afghanistan through the Integrated Check Post (ICP), Attari, Amritsar.


The drugs were concealed in a consignment of liquorice roots (mulethi), according to the NIA. (PTI Input)

President Droupadi Murmu to inaugurate homoeopathic symposium on Wednesday


President Droupadi Murmu is expected to inaugurate a two-day homoeopathic symposium on the occasion of World Homoeopathy Day on Wednesday in the national capital.The two-day scientific convention organised by the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy, an autonomous apex research organisation under the Ministry of Ayush, will be held at Yashobhoomi Convention Centre Dwarka, New Delhi.


It will be held based on the theme “Empowering Research, Enhancing Proficiency: A Homoeopathic Symposium”.“The convention aims to promote evidence-based scientific treatment in clinical practice and health programmes, to capacitate the homoeopathic community in research-based therapeutics, to become a healthcare powerhouse meeting the population's needs for personalised, safe, and credible healthcare,” the Ayush ministry said.It added that the event will also “enrich homoeopathic medicine with quality diagnostics, therapeutics, and scientific tools for better patient outcomes.”


EC Orders Fresh Polls In 8 Polling Stations In Arunachal On Wednesday


The Election Commission has declared as 'void' the elections held at eight polling stations in four districts in Arunachal Pradesh and announced fresh polling in these stations on Wednesday, officials said on Monday.Election officials said that Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were damaged and incidents of violence were reported in these eight polling stations during simultaneous polling to Lok Sabha and Assembly on the first phase of voting on April 19.Arunachal Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer, Pawan Kumar Sain, quoting the Election Commission letter said in an order that fresh polling would be held from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday in these eight polling stations under four districts -- East Kameng, Kurunq Kumey, Upper Subansiri, and Siang.During the first phase of polling on April 19, over 76.44 per cent of 8.92 lakh voters exercised their franchise in the simultaneous Assembly and Parliamentary polls to the two Lok Sabha constituencies and 50 of the 60 Assembly seats in the border state.
