Gyanvapi Row: HC To Hear Petition Filed By Waqf Board, Mosque Management Committee On Friday


The Allahabad High Court will hear on Friday a petition filed by the Uttar Pradesh Sunni Waqf Board and the Gyanvapi masjid management committee that has challenged the maintainability of a suit pending before a Varanasi court, seeking the restoration of a temple at the site of the mosque.


The petitioners have also challenged an April 8, 2021 order of the Varanasi court, directing the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to conduct a comprehensive survey of the Gyanvapi mosque complex. On November 28, 2022, Justice Prakash Padia had reserved his judgment in the matter after hearing both sides at length.


However, in its order dated May 24, Justice Padia said more clarifications were required from the counsel for the parties. Considering this, the matter was put up, along with other connected matters, for further hearing on Friday.


Congress To Hold 2-Day Deliberations On Poll Strategy In MP, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh


 The Congress will hold two-day deliberations starting Friday on its preparedness and poll prospects in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, two of which are held by the party currently. Sources said while the Congress units of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan will hold separate discussions on May 26 on their preparations and actions to be taken, the party will also hold strategy meets on Chhattisgarh on May 27.


Buoyed by its poll victory in Karnataka, the Congress has started preparing for the next round of Assembly elections in the three states, with party chief Mallikarjun Kharge taking the lead. Poll strategist and former associate of Prashant Kishor Sunil Kanugolu will be part of the deliberations with the state leaders to strategise the party's preparedness for the next round of Assembly elections.


Rahul Gandhi's Fresh Passport Plea: Court Posts Matter On Friday


A Delhi court posted the hearing on a plea for a fresh passport by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, an accused in the National Herald case, on May 26. Gandhi had moved the court Tuesday seeking a 'no objection certificate' to secure a fresh ordinary passport after having surrendered his diplomatic travel document upon his disqualification as an MP.


Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vaibhav Mehta posted the matter on Friday for the filling of written submissions and the arguments of BJP leader Subramanian Swamy. During the proceedings, Rahul Gandhi's advocate sought the grant of NOC, saying there are no criminal cases pending against him.          


ACMM Mehta, however, said Swamy had the right to file a reply on the application.
