LoP Rahul Gandhi To Visit Hathras Today
Following the tragic stampede in Hathras, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi will visit the district on Friday, where he will also meet the family members of the victims, party officials told news agency PTI.
"Our leader Rahul Gandhi will visit Hathras on Friday. He will meet the family members of the victims of the incident," Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai told PTI.
On Thursday, Rai blamed the state government for the Hathras incident that claimed 121 lives. The stampede occurred at a 'satsang' of self-styled godman Narayan Sakar Hari, also known as 'Bhole Baba,' on July 2.
Rahul Gandhi's visit will be the first visit of a senior opposition leader to Hathras since the incident took place.
On Wednesday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Hathras and met the victims.
Jailed Radical Preacher Amritpal To Take Oath As Lok Sabha Member Today
Jailed radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh and Kashmiri leader Sheikh Abdul Rashid are all set to take oath as Lok Sabha members on Friday.
While Singh is lodged in a prison in Assam's Dibrugarh district for offences under the National Security Act, Rashid, is in Delhi's Tihar jail in a terror funding case registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Both of them won the recent Lok Sabha elections as Independents while being incarcerated. Singh, 31, won from Khadoor Sahib in Punjab, while Rashid, 56, won from Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir.
Since they were in jail they could not take oath as members of the 18th Lok Sabha on June 24 and 25, along with the other candidates.
Rashid has been granted a two-hour custody parole, excluding the travel time from Tihar to Parliament, for his oath-taking. Singh, on the other hand, has been granted a four-day custody parole, beginning July 5. He will be flown in from Assam to Delhi and back.
According to their respective parole orders, they are prohibited from speakig to or addressing the media on any issue or making any statements, during their parole periods. Additionally, their family members also cannot make any statement in any form of media, PTI reported.
