Defamation Case: SC To Hear Kejriwal's Plea Against Summons On Monday
The Supreme Court is set to hear a plea on Monday from Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal challenging a Delhi High Court order that upheld the summons issued to him in a criminal defamation case. The case pertains to Kejriwal retweeting an allegedly defamatory video circulated by YouTuber Dhruv Rathee in May 2018.
According to PTI, a three-judge bench, including Justices Sanjiv Khanna, Sanjay Kumar, and R Mahadevan, is expected to hear the case, in which Kejriwal has acknowledged that he "committed a mistake" by retweeting the video.
On March 11, the Supreme Court asked Kejriwal if he was willing to apologise to the complainant in the case. Earlier, on February 26, Kejriwal informed the apex court that he had made an error in retweeting the allegedly defamatory video related to the BJP IT Cell.
The complainant's counsel, Vikas Sankrityayan, suggested that Kejriwal could issue an apology on social media platforms such as 'X' or Instagram.
SC To Hear Bail Plea Of Former TN Minister Senthil Balaji In Money Laundering Case On Monday
The Supreme Court is set to hear the bail plea on Monday of former Tamil Nadu minister V Senthil Balaji, who was arrested last year by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case.
A bench comprising Justices Abhay S Oka and Augustine George Masih will consider Balaji's appeal against the February 28 order from the Madras High Court, which rejected his second bail petition.
As per PTI, the High Court, in its decision to dismiss the bail plea, stated that granting bail in such a case would send the wrong message and contradict the broader public interest. The court also noted that Balaji had been in custody for over eight months and suggested that the special court expedite the case.
As a result, the High Court directed the Principal Special Court in Chennai to resolve the case within three months of receiving a copy of the order.
