Delhi: Fire Breaks Out At South Delhi's Restaurant

A fire broke out at a restaurant in the Greater Kailash area of south Delhi on Saturday evening, officials said.


As per the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) officials reports, a call was received at 10.10 pm and five fire tenders have been pressed into service. The fire was reported from a restaurant at M Block in Greater Kailash Part 2, PTI reported.

As Delhi Records Hottest Day Of Season At 42.5 Deg C, Heatwave Likely Today


The national capital experienced its hottest day of the summer so far on Thursday, with temperatures marking 42.5 degrees Celsius, as reported by the weather office, PTI reported. This outstriped the previous record for this summer, which was 42 degrees Celsius on May 8, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).


Thursday's temperature was two degrees above the normal range. The day's relative humidity fluctuated between 25% and 65%.


The IMD's seven-day forecast indicates that remote areas of the capital could see heatwave conditions on Saturday, with temperatures potentially hitting 45 degrees Celsius.


Heatwave conditions are defined by the Met department as occurring when the maximum temperature is 4.5 degrees or more above normal, reaching at least 45 degrees Celsius.


Over 2,000 cops to guard PM's Saturday rally: Delhi Police 


In anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally in northeast Delhi on Saturday, local police have significantly increased security near the rally ground, deploying a force of 2,000 personnel. Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, accompanied by other senior officers, visited the northeast district on Friday to review the security arrangements.A senior officer indicated that Modi is expected to arrive at the rally site by helicopter after addressing another election rally in Sonipat, Haryana. Coordination meetings were held with various agencies responsible for the Prime Minister's security. The officer explained, "We are identifying buildings and trees on all possible routes where police personnel can be deployed to maintain a strict vigil on all activities."The Delhi Development Authority ground at Pushta Number 4 of Yamuna Khadar has been selected as the venue for the election gathering. This ground is located in the Ghonda assembly, which falls within the northeast Delhi parliamentary constituency. The rally is scheduled to begin at 4 pm.


IMD Forecasts Heavy Rainfall and Thunderstorms in Karnataka


C S Patil, Director of the Meteorological Centre, IMD Bengaluru, stated that Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Hassan, Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagara, Udupi, and Dakshina Kannada districts are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall from May 17 to 21.Additionally, some areas in Kodagu, Hassan, Mysuru, Mandya, and Tumakuru districts will witness gusty winds ranging from 40-50 kmph on May 18. Moderate rain and thundershowers are also anticipated in Chikkaballapura, Chitradurga, Davangere, Kolar, Ramanagara, and Vijayanagara districts.The IMD also predicts light to moderate rain in Bagalkote, Belagavi, Bidar, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, and Yadgir districts.
