Schools in Odisha to Remain Closed From April 18-20 For Heatwave
The Odisha government on Wednesday announced the closure of all schools in the state from April 18 to 20 in view of the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) heatwave forecast.In a press statement, the School and Mass Education Department said the government has decided to close down all schools including those run by the government, government-aided and private for three days in view of prevailing heatwave conditions and rise in day temperature.As per IMD’s forecast, the temperature is likely to rise gradually by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius at many places during the next two days.
The temperature is expected to cross the 45 degrees Celsius mark in a few places in Odisha from April 18 to 20.Baripada town in Mayurbhanj district was the hottest place in the entire country on Tuesday with a temperature of 43.6 degrees Celsius, weather scientist Umashankar Das said.In a bulletin, IMD's Bhubaneswar Centre said heatwave conditions would prevail at some places in the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, Angul, and Boudh on Wednesday.
Manish Sisodia's Judicial Custody Extended Till April 18 In Excise Policy Case
A Delhi court on Saturday extended AAP leader Manish Sisodia's judicial custody till April 18 in connection with a money laundering case related to the alleged excise policy scam.Sisodia, the former deputy chief minister of Delhi, was produced before Special Judge Kaveri Baweja of Rouse Avenue Court on the expiry of his previously extended judicial custody.On Tuesday, Sisodia's bail application was argued by his counsel alleging delay in completing the investigation in the case.Sisodia's counsel Mohit Mathur had argued that despite 11 months passing since the investigation concluded, there has been no evidence linking his client to the alleged bribe money.Mathur had presented arguments before Special Judge Kaveri Baweja of the Rouse Avenue Court, contending the absence of CBI's public prosecutor.Mathur had reiterated that the alleged proceeds of crime were not proven to cause any loss to the exchequer or private consumers.He had stressed the delay in the trial, stating that the Supreme Court's order, allowing him to approach the court, is six months old, and the investigation should have been completed by now.
