BMW has introduced the 530 M Sport in India today. Priced at Rs 59.20 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India), it attracts a premium of Rs 5.4 lakh over the variant it replaces (530i Sport Line variant).

For that extra premium, the 530i M Sport gets extra features as well. Over the Sport Line, it gets front parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, Harman Kardon sound system, electrically adjustable front sport seats, remote parking functionality with the BMW display key and 18-inch lightweight M alloy wheels.

Other features on offer include adaptive LED headlamps, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, electric sunroof, ambient lighting, front and rear parking sensors, anti-dazzle mirrors, hands free parking, 360 degree camera, wireless mobile charging and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and gesture control.

The 530i M Sport also gets some aesthetic updates, which sets it apart from the now-discontinued 530i Sport Line variant. It gets M Sport package, which includes glossy black finish on the front grille, car key with M Sport styling, mirror base, B-pillar finisher and window guide rail in high-gloss black, front bumper with gloss black elements, M badging on the front fenders, M door sills, dark blue painted brake callipers, trapezoidal tailpipe finished in high-gloss chrome and M aerodynamic package with front apron, side skirts and rear apron with diffuser insert.

The 530i Sport Line, on the other hand, featured, glossy black finish on the grille, front bumper, mirror base, B-pillar finisher and window guide rail in high-gloss black, glossy black finish on the rear bumper and tailpipe finisher in black chrome.

However, under the hood, it is powered by the same 2.0-litre unit that was used in the 530i Sport Line. It generates 252PS of power and 350Nm of peak torque mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The 530i M Sport variant is not the first M Sport variant in the 5 Series lineup. It joins the 530d M Sport, which is priced at Rs 66.20 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India), a premium of Rs 7 lakh over the 530i M Sport.

For this premium, the 530d M Sport not only gets a diesel engine but also packs additional features like comfort seats with lumbar support, four-zone climate control and heads-up display.

Aesthetically, both the M Sport variants look similar on the outside, but on the inside, things are a bit different. While the 530i M Sport gets Dakota leather upholstery, the 530d M Sport comes with Nappa leather. It also misses out on the fine wood trim, which the 530d M Sport gets.

With the introduction of the new 530i M Sport variant in the place of the 530i Sport Line, buying a 5 Series has become more expensive. Earlier, where the entry-level 5 Series (530i Sport Line) was priced at Rs 53.80 lakh, it now starts at Rs 58.70 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India) for the 520d Luxury Line variant.
