Four terrorists were killed in two different encounters with government forces in South Kashmir on Tuesday, said police, as reported by news agency ANI. Lashkar-e-Toiba commander Mukhtar Bhat was among the other terrorists who were gunned down by security forces in Awantipora. According the source, he along with others was going for a fidayeen (suicide) attack on the security forces camp. Kashmir Zone Police said that one AK-74 rifle, an AK-56 rifle, and 1 pistol were recovered from the spot.


“03 terrorists killed in Awantipora encounter. Identification being ascertained. As per our source, 1 is FT & 1 local terrorist of LeT namely Mukhtiyar Bhat, involved in several terror crimes including killing of 01 ASI of CRPF & 2 RPF personnel. A big success for us: ADGP Kashmir,” Kashmir Zone Police said in a tweet.






One more militant was killed in an encounter with government forces in the Bijbehara area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, police said.

“01 #terrorist killed in #Bijbehara encounter. Operation going on. #Encounter in #Awantipora going on. Further details shall follow,” Kashmir Zone Police said in a tweet.






Apart from this, the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday recovered a 10 kg bucket IED and 2 hand grenades from all three, which are being destroyed by the bomb disposal squad in the Rangreth area.


A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Explosives Act and Arms Act at Chanapora police station, a police spokesperson said, adding that all three terrorists are affiliated with LeT. 


The area has been cordoned off while the Jammu and Kashmir Police and Army are jointly leading the area.
