5 stars is getting full marks and that is what these cars have got. Till now only a few cars have got 5 stars and that is the full score given by GNCAP on crash testing. Now GNCAP normally tests the base version so how the structure and how many safety features the car has is determined in the end by the safety score. Till now only a few cars from India have managed this and it is slightly disappointing that only Indian car-makers and not other car-makers are part of this list as more 5-star rated cars should be made.
Here are currently the few 5- star rated cars. Do note that these ratings are given by GNCAP and it is entirely possible for a car to score poorly in a GNCAP test but be on sale in India as GNCAP has higher standards than the ones that the cars to be sold in India have to meet, but some cars have met that and they are below.
Tata Nexon
The Nexon was India's first 5-star star car and the car that was tested was the pre-facelift model but even then the Nexon scored a solid 5 with a good score. Nexon scored five stars for Adult Occupant Protection and three stars for Child Occupant Protection. The Nexon was actually earlier tested and had a four star result but then Tata added a number of safety features including making a Seat Belt Reminder (SBR) for driver and passenger a standard for all variants of the model. In addition the Nexon was required to pass a side impact test meeting UN95 side impact protection requirements.
Mahindra XUV300
The XUV300 from Mahindra was tested earlier this year and got the Global NCAP’s first ever ‘Safer Choice’ Award, which is given to automakers getting the highest levels of safety performance in India. It got five star Global NCAP rating for adult occupant protection and four stars for child occupant protection. It also met pedestrian protection and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) ‘Safer Choice’ Award requirements.

Tata Altroz
The Altroz was also tested in January this year and got the 5 stars. It got 5 stars for adults and three stars for child occupant protection. The base model was chosen with 2 airbags as standard. Its structure and the footwell area was rated as stable by them. Head and neck protection for adult occupants was also given as good. Chest protection for both adults was termed as adequate. Child occupant protection also showed good protection. Currently it is the only hatchback to get full 5 stars.
