Do not be fooled though as this is indeed the Kia Sonet compact SUV that you can buy at your nearest Kia showroom in a months time. It seems that Kia has just removed the concept tag from the Sonet we saw a few months back at the Auto Expo and made a very futuristic looking SUV.

No doubt the Sonet looks appealing and like the Seltos, looks would be its USP. There are a lot of sculpted lines at the front plus the Kia grille is well integrated with the headlamps. For the full SUV effect the front of the Sonet also gets pretty flared wheel-arches which house the well designed alloys. From the front you can see the ample cladding and the skid plate which again gels in nicely with overall design.

Kia Sonet Rear View

The side and rear is more interesting too as we like the small but well designed tail-lamps plus interestingly the way the tail-lamps are linked to each other via a connecting light mechanism is also neat and gives the Sonet a wide stance when seen from the rear. Also you will notice the way the rear slopes in and the way the C-Pillar has been integrated with the rear glass. Kia will offer a lot of colour options too with trims like the TechLine and GTline offering a variety of colour options. We found the paint quality to be very good.

Kia Sonet Interiors

We have been impressed with the Seltos cabin design and also its long features list when it was launched so a lot of expectations were there regarding the Sonet. The interior of the Sonet looks and feels well designed with decent quality if not at the same high standard of the Seltos. The cabin lay-out is similar where a big touch-screen is at the centre while the lay-out of the centre console is laid pretty well. Kia has used a premium finish for the steering controls and some of the switches which improves the ambience. The GTline gets an all black look while the Techline gets the dual-tone colour scheme.

Kia Sonet Central Touch Screen Console

The Sonet gets a 4.2 inch instrument cluster panel which gives out all the info via a clear big screen in front of you. There is navigation turn-by-turn, High Line Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and Multi Drive Modes and Grip Control etc. The central touch-screen at 10.25 is the largest and is brilliant in its display and usage. Below that you get switches for the ventilated seats and climate control. The other features are a sunroof, air purifier with virus protection, Bose audio with ambient lighting, UVO connected tech, wireless charging, front/rear parking sensors with rear view camera etc.

Kia Sonet space

The Kia Sonet is a compact SUV at below the 4m length thus space is a bit compact. However inside it does not feel very cramped and it is a decently spacious family compact SUV. The rear seats can take two passengers comfortably though legroom could have been better. We like the big door pockets which can fit water bottles and the central storage space is decent. The presence of a sunroof makes the cabin airy and the dual-tone interiors feel more spacious over the all black one.

Kia Sonet Engine Variants

The Sonet will come with a 1.2l petrol and a 1.0 turbo petrol while there will also be a 1.5l diesel. The turbo petrol will get the iMT clutchless manual along with the DCT option. The sporty GT line will have the DCT as the flagship sporty variant. The surprise is that Kia will also give a 6-speed automatic with the diesel engine. A manual gearbox is standard.

Kia Sonet Side View

Kia will launch the Sonet soon and just like the Seltos, there would be aggressive pricing also where it would be near its arch-rivals like the Hyundai Venue or the Tata Nexon. While rivals of the Sonet are long, Kia has done its homework with the good looks and a long feature list while the interior or the engine/gearbox combinations further makes the car an appealing package. If you are buying a compact SUV, then make sure you check this one out as it is coming towards the starting of the festive season.
