Hyderabad: Government school teachers in Andhra Pradesh took to the streets on Thursday to intensify their protest against "unsatisfactory" salary revisions. They have appealed to district collectorates throughout the state, demanding the immediate abolition of the new pay scales.

The teachers' unions have staged a sit-in under the auspices of the United Platform, demanding immediate reversal of the government's decision on the Pay Revision Commission. Many teachers from all over the district participated in the protest, during which slogans were raised against the government.

Tension prevailed as the police tried to stop the teachers and employees from protesting, according to an ABP Desam report. The police arrested a few teachers' union leaders.

At Krishna and Guntur district collectorates, teachers and employees protested in large numbers and raised slogans against the government. They demanded that the Government Order (GO) to fix the new pay scales be withdrawn.

Farmers' unions have extended their support to the teachers' unions in Krishna and Guntur districts. The police arrested the teachers' union leaders who tried to storm the collectorate and took them to the area police station.

The situation was similar in the Srikakulam district. The protesting employees tried to reach the district collector's office but the police closed the roads to the collectorate with barricades. The teachers blamed the police for the roadblock. A scuffle between the protesting employees and the police was reported.
