Hyderabad: The formation of new districts in Andhra Pradesh came to light once again. The formation of new districts is likely to be notified within one to two days. The government is reportedly working on completing the process before the Ugadi festival.

In its election manifesto, the YSR Congress Party has stated that it will form every Lok Sabha constituency as one district for administrative convenience. However, government sources said the formation of new districts was being delayed as the census was not yet complete. Central guidelines are currently in force not to change the geographical boundaries of the districts until the census is completed. The census process is expected to be completed by May 2021 but has been postponed due to corona.

There are 25 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state. However, there is a possibility of 13 more districts being formed in addition to the existing 13 districts in the state. This brings the total number of districts to 26.

The Araku Lok Sabha seat is likely to be split into two districts because it is the largest. Before the construction of new districts, there may be some revisions in some constituencies, according to sources. It seems that the government is working hard to ensure that every assembly constituency is in a district.
