Gandhinagar As Gujarat witnessed a major spike in Covid-19 cases in the last week, Ahmedabad corporator and a senior Congress leader Badruddin Shaikh succumbed to the deadly virus on Sunday night. The 68-year-old leader was one of the senior and stalwart politicians in the Gujarat Congress unit. The leader was admitted to a hospital after his health conditions deteriorated during home quarantine, according to an IANS report.




Shaikh's was found infected with Covid-19 just after a day the test results of a Congress MLA Imran Khedawala also came positive. A s a senior corporator he was elected from the Behrampura ward in Amdavad Municipal Corporation and in the past also remained a spokesperson of Gujarat Congress.



In a condolence message from Congress's national spokesperson Shaktisinh Gohil on Twitter account, he said, "I am at a loss of words. Badrubhai, as we called him was stellar of strength and patience. A senior leader of our Gujarat family, I knew him for 40 years when he was with Youth Congress. He was relentlessly working with poor people & was infected with Covid_19," Gohil tweeted.



In Gujarat, the total number of positive cases has touched 3301. While the total number of cases in the country surged to 27,892 and 872 deaths have been reported so far.
