New Delhi: Actor and human rights activist Chetan Kumar was arrested by the Bengaluru Police on Tuesday over a tweet about one of the Karnataka High Court judges hearing the Hijab row case, ANI reported. The news about Chetan's arrest was also confirmed by the actor's wife Megha in a Facebook video. 


"Actor and human rights activist Chetan Kumar has been arrested for his tweet. A suo moto FIR was registered in Sheshadripuram PS. Kumar will be produced before the Jurisdictional Magistrate," ANI quoted DCP Central as saying.


Kamal Pant, Bengaluru Police Commissioner, said Chetan Kumar was taken into custody over his tweet about Justice Krishna Dixit, who is hearing a series of petitions against banning of Hijab in educational campuses, a report in The News Minute said. He is party of a three-judge bench hearing the batch of pleas.


 






The case was registered after police took suo motu cognisance of Chetan's tweet dated February 16 where he questioned Justice Krishna Dixit of the High Court.


The Bengaluru Police Commissioner said Chetan had been booked under Section 505 (2) (Intent to incite a class or community to commit offence against another class or community) and Section 504 (Intentionally insulting, thereby giving provocation to any person to break public peace) of the Indian Penal Code.

During a live chat from Chetan's Facebook page on Tuesday, Megha said that Chetan had gone missing from the house and his phone was switched off. She has filed a complaint with the Bengaluru Police Commissioner’s office, seeking information on his whereabouts, The News Minute reported
