New Delhi: In the last 24 hours, India reported 8,306 new cases of the Covid-19 while 8,834 people recovered from the infection. 211 deaths were reported in the country in the last 24 hours. Active caseload stood at 98,416 which was lowest in the last 552 days.
Official press release from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare stated that the recovery rate was at 98.35 percent. The daily positivity rate was at 0.94 percent which has been less than 2 percent from the last 63 days. Whereas the weekly positivity rate was 0.78 percent which was less than 1 percent.
As per the official website of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 8,86,263 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
24,55,911 vaccine doses were inoculated till 8:00 am on December 6 taking the cumulative figure to 1,27,93,09,669.

The new ‘Omicron’ variant of the coronavirus has hit the alarm bell all across the globe. In India, 21 cases of Covid-19 with Omicron variant have been reported so far. Nine new cases were detected from Rajasthan’s capital Jaipur whereas Maharashtra reported seven more cases on Sunday.
The first two cases of Omicron variant in India were detected in Karnataka whereas third and fourth cases were reported from Jamnagar in Gujarat and Mumbai respectively. Fifth case was reported in Delhi.
It was reported that most of the people who tested positive for Covid-19 with the Omicron variant were either returnees from African countries or came in contact with people who returned from African countries.
