Rear AC vents on the Hyundai Santro will be a segment-first feature

The new 2018 Hyundai Santro, which is set to be launched on October 23, has now been spied in its Asta variant. The Santro Asta will be top-spec variant of the hatchback and will be offered with a manual transmission only. The hatchback will be available in a total of five variants: Dlite, Era, Magna, Sportz and Asta. Only the Magna and Sportz variants will be available with the option of an automatic transmission.

Like we’ve seen in the official images, Hyundai has refrained from using much chrome on the Santro. There’s a chrome outline on the front grille, but just on the periphery. Door handles, even on the top variant, come without any chrome, and we’re not complaining. The lack of chrome can also be seen on the inside - even the Hyundai logo on the steering wheel is a black affair. But if we were to nitpick, the lack of alloy wheels even on the top-spec Asta variant is a bit of a letdown and LEDs in the tail lamps would have made it look richer without adding to car’s cost. The B-pillar is also finished in body-colour, much like cars from a decade before. Modern-day cars generally get blacked-out B-pillars, which helps mask some of the visual mass.

The latest video shows the 2018 Hyundai Santro being unloaded from a truck at a dealer stockyard, followed by a full tour of the interiors. Just like the Grand i10, the Santro will become another Hyundai to offer rear AC vents as a segment-first feature. The Santro’s rear AC cents are diagonally placed and their orientation is more horizontal than vertical. This should help keep the rear passenger compartment evenly cooled.

There are two rear AC vents, one for each passenger, and the direction of air can be adjusted on both of them. However, both vents share a common air flow dial. Although the video is a little blurry, we can make out that the quality of plastics around the air vents are quite premium.

Hyundai has already revealed the Santro’s powertrain options. We have also seen the car and driven it in a controlled setting. We’ve also discussed the interiors in detail and if you want to read more about it, click here. All that’s left to know about the 2018 Hyundai Santro is its price.
