Honda is bringing its fifth-gen SUV with a diesel engine, 7 seats and more
Making a return to the mid-size SUV segment in India, Honda will be launching its fifth-gen CR-V tomorrow. The model gets considerable updates and even offers a new 7-seat configuration for the first time. Here’s all that you need to know about Honda’s new range-topping SUV.
The 2018 Honda CR-V is bigger and promises to be more modern than before, with features like auto LED headlamps, L-shaped LED taillamps, new DRLs and a panoramic sunroof. It gets a new centre console design that does not feature a conventional gear control stick of any sorts, but instead has push-button gear selector with an electronic e-brake as well. It also comes with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in the centre of the dashboard with the aircon vents just above it. Talk of safety features and it gets 6 airbags, lane watch camera, ESC and a driver fatigue monitor. However, ‘Honda Sensing,’ the brand’s suite of driver assist and safety systems, is not on offer.
The new Honda CR-V was showcased at the Auto Expo 2018 and for the first time in India, Honda will be offering a 7-seat configuration of the CR-V powered by their 1.6-litre diesel engine. There is also be a 2.0-litre petrol engine variant but it will not offer the 7-seat layout. There will be no manual transmission option, with the petrol engine being paired to a CVT and the diesel paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission.
We expect the new Honda CR-V to be priced anywhere between Rs 25 lakh and Rs 31 lakh. Since it will be offered in both five-seater and seven-seater layouts, the CR-V will face competition from both ends. The petrol-powered five-seater will go up against the Hyundai Tucson and Volkswagen Tiguan while the diesel-powered seven-seater will give competition to the Skoda Kodiaq.
