New Delhi: Patriotism is one theme that Bollywood has always loved, and it has mostly worked for the industry. 'Mission Majnu' also uses this formula, and it looks like the film has succeeded in its mission.
The story is pretty predictable and you can easily guess what it's about from the trailer. Sidharth Malhotra, who portrays Amandeep Singh, a RAW field agent, makes his living as a tailor in Pakistan. He's married to Nasreen, played by Rashmika Mandanna, who is visually challenged.
After India lost the war in 1971, Pakistan tried to develop a nuclear weapon, and Sidharth's task is to find the nuclear plant. This is the central conflict of the story. To know how he does that, you will have to watch the film on Netflix!
The performances are among the best aspects of this movie. The action parts are where Sidharth Malhotra really excels. However, Rashmika Mandanna, who plays a girl who is blind, is brilliant. Mandanna's character has a charming innocence. Kumud Mishra and Sharib Hashmi provided the two with excellent support and put on their usual stellar performances.
The direction by Shantanu Bagchi is also noteworthy; the screenplay is tight, and the film moves at a good pace. It gives you goosebumps at places and comes to the point very early, not wasting much time in unnecessary sequences. The music by Ketan Sodha is also soothing. Tracks like 'Rabba Janda' and 'Maati Ko Maa Kehti hain' touch your heart and go well with the pace of the film.
This is a must-watch if you admire Sidharth Malhotra and Rashmika Mandanna's work. However, even if you're not a big fan, it's worth a watch. Although the storyline is not particularly original, it has been efficiently done and keeps you intrigued.
'Mission Majnu' is a decent movie overall. Even while the plot may not be very innovative or mind-blowing, the performances and direction make it worth seeing.
