Fateh movie review: In ‘Fateh’, Sonu Sood takes center stage not only as the lead actor but also as the director, delivering a gripping cinematic experience packed with high-octane action. Known for his screen presence, Sood transforms into Fateh Singh, a man driven by justice, who embarks on a thrilling journey to uncover a cyber-crime conspiracy. What sets this film apart is not just the action sequences but its exploration of the increasingly relevant issue of cybercrime in the digital age.

Fateh plot

The story is set in Punjab's Moga, where Fateh Singh, played by Sonu Sood, is leading a peaceful life until an unexpected turn of events forces him to intervene in a personal crisis. Fateh’s life changes when he steps in to help Nimrit, a woman from his village, who is passionately trying to protect her community from the growing threat of cyber fraud. Despite her efforts, a local man falls victim to a cyber scam, which leads Nimrit to Delhi in search of solutions. However, when Nimrit goes missing, Fateh takes matters into his own hands to track her down.

As Fateh investigates, he uncovers the dark web of cyber crime that is spreading rapidly across the country. The second half of the film delves into Fateh's past, revealing his connections with national intelligence agencies and shedding light on how his formidable combat skills come into play. The plot weaves a tight narrative with fast-paced action and engaging sequences, touching on the dangers of cyber fraud and technologies like deepfake videos.

Fateh review

The movie’s strength lies in its combination of a compelling issue and intense action. 'Fateh' is not just an action movie; it also highlights a contemporary problem that affects millions of people—cyber fraud. The film’s action scenes are the highlight, with Sonu Sood executing them flawlessly. His natural charisma and effortless combat skills make his portrayal of Fateh believable and exciting. The film doesn't compromise its plot for the sake of action, which is often the case with typical action-packed films. Instead, the issue of cybercrime is addressed thoughtfully while providing an adrenaline rush through fast-paced sequences.

However, the film’s opening could have been slightly more engaging. The introduction of Nimrit’s character and her quest to expose cyber fraud could have been executed more effectively. Nonetheless, once the action kicks in, it’s impossible to look away. The film offers multiple thrilling action sequences that rival those in Hollywood hits, reminding viewers of characters like John Wick or Ranbir Kapoor's role in Animal. The movie also features moments of humor, adding levity to the intense narrative, and wraps up with Honey Singh’s hit song "HITMAN," which provides a catchy finish to the action-packed journey.

Performance

Sonu Sood shines in his portrayal of Fateh Singh. His body language and confidence are on point, exuding the charisma needed for an action hero while avoiding exaggeration. Jacqueline Fernandez plays an ethical hacker and though her performance is average, her character adds a different dimension to the story. The standout performances come from veteran actors Naseeruddin Shah and Vijay Raaz. Their characters, Raaz and the mysterious antagonist working with him, bring gravitas to the plot, despite having limited screen time. Both actors deliver strong performances, adding depth to their roles as the villainous figures.

Direction

This is Sonu Sood’s directorial debut, and it’s clear that he has put his heart into making a film that stands tall among action films. While 'Fateh' could have been more emotionally charged, the direction in terms of action sequences is impeccable. The one-take action scenes are designed to keep viewers on the edge of their seats, without losing the intensity. Sood proves he can helm an action movie with flair and conviction, blending his skills as an actor and director seamlessly.

Verdict

'Fateh' is an action-packed thriller that not only offers great entertainment but also highlights the growing issue of cybercrime. With its high-energy sequences, thought-provoking theme, and Sonu Sood’s captivating performance, the film marks an important milestone in his career, both as an actor and a director.
