Binny And Family Review: Sometimes, what we see in movies influences how we live our lives, which is why it's often said that films are a reflection of society. Many of us aspire to look like heroes or strive for the "zero figure" like heroines. But every now and then, there should be films that teach us lessons we truly need in life. This movie is one such gem.
Binny And Family storyline
The film revolves around Binny (Anjini Dhawan), a young girl living in London with her parents. Their home is small, and when her grandparents visit from India, Binny feels uncomfortable. The grandparents' traditional ways and restrictions begin to bother her, and her parents are stuck in the middle, unable to balance their role as mediators between two generations. The movie beautifully portrays the generation gap and explores how it can be bridged with love and understanding.
How is Binny And Family?
This is undoubtedly one of the most endearing films of the year. It gently reminds us of the importance of family values and shows that just because the elderly have aged, it doesn’t mean they’ve lost their worth. Similarly, it conveys that younger people aren’t necessarily naive and can teach us valuable lessons. The film tugs at your heartstrings and might just inspire you to improve your relationship with your own family. It could even make you a better person or motivate you to help someone else become one.
You will feel emotionally connected to the story, and while it may remind you of Baghban, it still stands apart with its unique narrative. The only drawback of the film is its length—it could have been trimmed down, as it feels a bit stretched in parts.
Acting
Anjini Dhawan makes an impressive debut as Binny. She is the niece of Bollywood star Varun Dhawan, and while she comes from a star family, her performance doesn't feel forced. She handles the role with maturity and depth. Sharing the screen with seasoned actors like Pankaj Kapur and Rajesh Kumar is no easy feat, but she holds her own. Pankaj Kapur, a legend in his own right, delivers yet another mesmerising performance. He exudes a calming presence, making you feel like he's your own grandfather. Rajesh Kumar shines in a particularly poignant scene where he lies to his father about not needing to come to London for his wife’s treatment. The pain and helplessness on his face speak volumes about his acting prowess. His portrayal of a modern father, yet a respectful son, strikes the perfect balance.
Himani Shivpuri does a commendable job as the grandmother, while Charu Shankar also delivers a strong performance as a modern mother, wife, and daughter-in-law, balancing all three roles seamlessly.
Direction
The film is written by Sanjay Tripathi and Naman Tripathi, with Sanjay also taking on the role of director. His work in both writing and directing is commendable, though the film could have made a stronger impact with a shorter runtime. Had it been 30 minutes shorter, it would have packed an even greater emotional punch.
This is a movie to watch with the entire family. Its heartwarming message and stellar performances make it a film that will stay with you long after the credits roll. Don’t miss it!
