Date, Time And Significance Of Yogini Ekadashi

In ancient times, a gardener by the name of Hem worked for King Kuber of Alkapuri city. His responsibility was to bring flowers from Mansarovar to worship Lord Shiva every day. One day the gardener was late in bringing flowers. This angered King Kuber. He cursed Hem. According to the curse Hem would contract leprosy, and would be separated from his wife.

Hem, who suffered due to the curse, wandered and reached the ashram of Markandeya Rishi. After knowing about the condition of the gardener there, the sage asked him to observe Yogini Ekadashi fast. Hem benefitted by fasting on Yogini Ekadashi. His leprosy was cured, and he attained salvation.
