New Delhi: Union Minister of Culture & Tourism, G Kishan Reddy on Sunday tweeted that on World Heritage Day all Areachlogical Survey of India (ASI) protected Sites & Monuments across India will have 'Free Entry' on March 18.

Earlier on Sunday, he tweeted about the Light, Sound & Performance at that UNESCO Heritage Site Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus on the same night which was shown live.



International Day for Monuments and Sites or more commonly known as World Heritage Day is observed to encourage communities and individuals to recognise the value of cultural heritage. To protect and preserve monuments and historical sites also to recognize the rich inheritance associated with them. The International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) which is based in Paris is behind first beginning this day. 


The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has designated a total of 1155 monuments in 167 countries as world heritage sites.


The theme of the year is - Heritage and Climate - it is to open a dialogue about climate justice and equity to protect heritage. It is also an opportunity to discuss ways to achieve equitable protection of vulnerable communities.


ICOMOS said that this day provides "a timely opportunity to showcase strategies to promote the full potential of heritage conservation research and practice to deliver climate-resilient pathways to strengthen sustainable development while advocating for just transitions to low-carbon futures."
