Famous actor and former Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Mithun Chakraborty on Sunday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party at Kolkata’s Brigade Ground.


Chakraborty, who has a huge fan-following in Bengal, joined the BJP at a massive rally in presence of West Bengal Party President Dilip Ghosh and National General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya.

Shortly after joining the saffron party, the actor took the stage and in his signature style, delivered a dialogue saying ""I am not 'Jol Dhora', I am not 'Bele Bora', I am a pure cobra. You will be finished in one bite. Now, remember the new slogan -- Ek chhobole chhobi."


The National Award-winning actor also recited a famous dialogue from his 2006 hit film, 'MLA Fatakeshto'. He said: “Marbo ekhaney...lash porbay shoshaney."


In no time, #Cobra and #Mithun Chakraborty began trending on Twitter with many coming up with hilarious memes.

Meanwhile, the battle ground in poll-bound Bengal has turned exciting with all the major parties leaves no stones upturned in their election campaigns. Mithun Chakraborty joining BJP is yet another significant step by the saffron party as it attempts to dethrone CM Mamata Banerjee let TMC government in the state amid the fierce 'Battle For Bengal' in the upcoming 8-phase assembly polls.


The state assembly election will be held for all 294 seats wherein the voting will take place in 1,01,916 polling stations all over West Bengal. Elections to the 294-member Assembly will be held in eight phases, from March 27 to April 29. The counting of votes will take place on May 2. The magic figure to be the ruling party in the West Bengal Assembly is 148.
